Description

Outa-Dor FD60 - 1 Hour Fire Doorset

The Outa-Dor 60 is the definitive external steel fire door for everyday commercial applications. Designed to meet the standard 60-minute fire resistance requirement found in the majority of UK building regulations, it offers a perfect balance of safety, durability, and cost-effectiveness. It is the "universal soldier" of our external range—ideal for everything from retail delivery exits to school plant rooms.

Unlike standard timber fire doors that can degrade rapidly when exposed to the British weather, the Outa-Dor 60 is built from corrosion-resistant Magnelis® steel. This ensures that its fire integrity remains uncompromised by rot or warping, guaranteeing that the door will perform exactly as expected if called upon.

Key Advantages

  • Verified FD60 Rating: Certified to BS EN 1634-1 for 60 minutes of fire integrity. This covers the most common compliance requirements for external doors in offices, shops, and public buildings.
  • All-Weather Performance: The 55mm thick door leaf is manufactured from 1.2mm Magnelis® sheets, which offer superior corrosion resistance compared to standard galvanised steel. This is backed by our industry-leading anti-corrosion warranty.
  • Thermal Efficiency: Available with a high-performance mineral wool core that not only provides fire resistance but also delivers a U-value of 1.8 W/m²K (standard) or better, helping you meet Part L energy efficiency targets.
  • Secure by Design: While its primary job is fire safety, the Outa-Dor 60 is also a formidable security barrier, featuring a rigid steel construction and four stainless steel dog-bolt hinges per leaf to resist forced entry.

Versatility in Application

The Outa-Dor 60 is designed to be as adaptable as possible:

  • Flexible Configuration: Available as single or double doors, with matching side and over panels to fill larger structural openings without compromising the fire rating.
  • Glazing Options: Can be fitted with fire-rated double glazed vision panels to maintain visibility and light flow, crucial for busy corridors and exit routes.
  • Finishing Touches: Supplied in a huge range of RAL colours to match your branding, or available in PVC woodgrain laminates for a softer, less industrial appearance on public-facing elevations.
Application

The Outa-Dor 60 (FD60) is the cornerstone of external fire protection for UK commercial buildings, offering the standard 1-hour fire resistance mandated by most fire strategies. Its versatility makes it the preferred specification for a vast range of sectors where durability, compliance, and security must coexist.

Commercial & Retail

Modern commercial premises rely on the Outa-Dor 60 for secure, compliant rear access:

  • High Street Shops: Provides mandatory 60-minute fire separation for rear delivery doors, protecting stockrooms and neighbouring properties in dense urban rows.
  • Supermarkets: The robust steel construction withstands the heavy impact of roll cages and pallet trucks in busy loading bays while maintaining a vital fire barrier.
  • Office Blocks: Secure external exits for stairwells and corridors, ensuring safe evacuation routes are protected from external fire risks (e.g., bin fires).

Education Sector

Schools, colleges, and universities require doors that can handle high abuse levels while keeping students safe:

  • Plant Rooms: External access to boiler houses and electrical cupboards often requires FD60 protection to contain potential fires away from classrooms.
  • Sports Halls & Gyms: Durable fire exits that resist football impacts and vandalism, reducing long-term maintenance costs for facilities managers.
  • Kitchen Deliveries: Hygienic, easy-clean steel surfaces make it ideal for canteen service entrances where food safety and fire safety standards overlap.

Healthcare & Public Buildings

In hospitals and care facilities, reliability is non-negotiable:

  • Ambulance Bays: Secure, fire-rated access for A&E departments that ensures continuity of operations during emergencies.
  • Medical Gas Stores: Protects volatile storage areas from external ignition sources with a certified 1-hour barrier.
  • Care Homes: Provides secure, draft-free external access for residents while meeting strict CQC and fire safety regulations for evacuation routes.

Industrial & Transport

For tougher environments, the Outa-Dor 60 offers "fit and forget" performance:

  • Warehousing: External personnel doors for staff entry that provide security against break-ins and 60 minutes of fire containment.
  • Multi-Storey Car Parks: Essential for stair cores and lift lobbies, where resistance to exhaust fumes, damp, and vandalism is as important as fire rating.
  • Transport Hubs: Service doors for train stations and airports, protecting back-of-house maintenance areas.

Regulatory Compliance

The Outa-Dor 60 helps building owners meet their legal obligations under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005:

  • Boundary Conditions: Where a building is close to a relevant boundary (e.g., < 1m), external doors often require 60 minutes of fire resistance to prevent fire spread to adjacent properties.
  • Protected Escape Routes: External doors opening onto external escape stairs must often be fire-rated to ensure the staircase remains safe to use during evacuation.

Installation

Installation & Assembly

Our Robust steel doorsets are engineered to minimize on-site labour and eliminate the common headaches associated with traditional door installation. Every unit is designed with a "Single Fix" philosophy, meaning the door is supplied as a complete, ready-to-fit system rather than a collection of parts.

Pre-Assembled Convenience

Unlike timber doors that require separate frame assembly, hanging, and hardware fitting, our steel doorsets arrive fully factory assembled. This means:

  • Pre-Hung Leaf: The door leaf is already mounted within the frame on high-performance stainless steel hinges.
  • Hardware Fitted: Locks, panic bars, and closers are pre-installed and tested in our factory, ensuring perfect alignment and operation out of the box.
  • Reduced Downtime: This "plug-and-play" approach drastically cuts installation time, allowing a typical single door to be fitted in less than 60 minutes by a competent installer.

Adjustable Frame System

We understand that structural openings are rarely perfect. Our unique installation system is designed to handle real-world site conditions without the need for excessive shimming or packing:

  • Variable Sub-Frame: The frame features an adjustable profile that can accommodate wall tolerance variances of -0mm to +30mm. This ensures a secure fit even in uneven openings.
  • Adjustable Fixing Feet: Each jamb is fitted with 4 adjustable fixing feet (8 per doorset). These allow installers to quickly level the frame and secure it firmly into the aperture using the provided 12mm Allen key.
  • No Shims Required: The integrated adjustment system removes the need for fiddly packers, creating a cleaner, more solid fixing point directly into the substrate.

Installation Kit Included

To further simplify the process, every doorset comes with a comprehensive installation kit containing:

  • 12mm Allen Key: For rapid adjustment of the fixing feet.
  • Touch-Up Paint: Matched to your door's colour for covering any minor installation marks.
  • Clear Mastic: For weather-sealing external perimeters (where applicable).
  • Drill Bits: Specialist bits suitable for concrete or steel fixing, ensuring you have the right tools for the job.

To maintain the validity of all warranties, site maintenance must be carried out at regular intervals as outlined in the Operation & Maintenance (O&M) manual provided with your product.

Measure

A steel doorset is always ordered by the OVERALL dimensions including the door leaf and outer sub fixing frame with no tolerances allowed for. Most people would generally allow 5mm tolerance all the way around the door, but it all depends on how square or true your aperture is on site.

This means if your structural opening size is measured as 1000mm width and 2100mm height the door and frame ought to be 990mm wide and 2090mm high with the frame and any threshold included.

Always measure the top, middle and bottom of your aperture width and the left and right hand side for the height and if possible do a measure to make sure the opening is square as well..
Always use millimetres for measuring as this is how we relay back the ordering dimensions to you for checking and approving a drawing for your order.

The Robust Inna-Dor does have an adjustable fitting frame to take up to 30mm of tolerance into account which helps when the opening is not square.
