Samson SRD77 Remote – Insulated Electric Roller Garage Door
The go‑to remote control roller door
The Samson SRD77 Remote is the go‑to insulated electric roller garage door when you want effortless, everyday remote control operation. This double‑skinned, foam‑filled aluminium roller door is supplied with remote control as standard, making it ideal for anyone who regularly drives a vehicle in and out of the garage or simply prefers the convenience of opening the door at the touch of a button.
With a specification that suits both single and double‑width garages, the SRD77 Remote is a perfect standard choice if you are looking for a secure, insulated, UK‑made electric roller door with proven, user‑friendly controls.
Remote control as standard
The Samson SRD77 Remote is supplied with 2 remote handsets as standard from the Somfy Keytis range, using reliable RTS radio technology for smooth, responsive operation. You can open and close the door from your vehicle or from the driveway, which is particularly convenient in bad weather or at night.
The internal Somfy Optimo control panel manages the communication between the motor and the handsets, and can also work with other compatible RTS access control devices if you wish to expand the system in future.
As a bonus, every SRD77 Remote is supplied with a Somfy wireless, wall‑mounted button control switch. This can be positioned anywhere within radio range inside the garage to give you a convenient internal control point, without the need for additional wiring.
Safe, compliant remote operation
To ensure safe and compliant use with remote control, the SRD77 Remote includes a bottom‑edge safety sensor built into the roller door curtain. This sensor detects obstacles when the door is closing and will trigger the door to stop and reverse if something is in the way, helping to protect people, vehicles and stored items.
Combined with the guided side tracks and quality motor drive, this safety system makes the SRD77 Remote a reassuring choice for busy households where garages are used frequently for cars, bikes, tools and everyday access.
UK‑manufactured quality and reliability
Samson SRD77 Remote insulated roller doors are manufactured in the UK by leading manufacturers SWS/AlluGuard for Samson Doors. Many decades of roller door and shutter experience ensure that only high‑quality materials and proven production techniques are used, while a simplified, robust design helps keep costs competitive and reliability high.
Samson Doors also specifies and supplies a wide range of roller shutters for security and industrial use, so high build quality and dependable performance are key considerations in every electric roller product we offer. The SRD77 Remote reflects this, delivering peace of mind and minimal day‑to‑day issues for homeowners.
Made‑to‑measure sizes and fitting
The SRD77 Remote is made to measure for each installation:
- Maximum overall width up to 5200 mm, including the side guides.
- Maximum curtain height of 2900 mm, plus 300 mm for the roll and endplates above.
- Side channel guides are 70 mm or 90 mm wide depending on the door width ordered.
- Doors over 3000 mm wide are supplied with 90 mm guides as standard, so the clear opening width will be 180 mm less than the ordering width.
This sizing flexibility makes the SRD77 Remote suitable for both single and double‑width garages, with a compact roll that preserves internal headroom and a neat, tidy finish.
Colours, hoods and finishes
The door curtain is available in 18 premium, high‑quality powder‑coated colours, allowing you to match or contrast with your windows, doors and other exterior details. An optional half or full hood in a matching colour can be specified to protect and conceal the roll, giving a clean, streamlined appearance.
If you would like a contrasting hood or guide colour, you can contact Samson Doors for details and pricing, creating a more bespoke look while keeping all the benefits of the insulated roller design.
Manual override and emergency access
An internal manual winding handle system is supplied as standard so you can operate the door from inside if there is a power failure. This ensures you can still open and close the door safely even when the mains supply is interrupted.
If your garage does not have a separate pedestrian access door, it is strongly recommended that you add the optional external low‑level emergency manual release. This allows you to manually operate the door from outside during a power cut, preventing you from being locked out when the power is off.
Why choose the Samson SRD77 Remote?
For homeowners who want a well‑specified, insulated electric roller garage door with remote control as standard, the Samson SRD77 Remote is the natural choice. It combines UK‑manufactured build quality, trusted Somfy controls, everyday convenience and a wide choice of sizes and finishes, making it an ideal solution for both single and double garages.
Typical Applications for Remote Control Garage Doors
A remote control garage door like the Samson SRD77 Remote is ideal wherever convenience, regular vehicle access and everyday ease of use are important. With handsets and a wireless wall switch included, it suits a wide range of UK homes and lifestyles.
- Regular vehicle access: Perfect if you drive in and out daily, allowing you to open and close the door without leaving your vehicle, especially useful in poor weather or at night.
- Family and multi‑user households: Multiple users can share handsets, and the wireless wall switch provides a simple control point for anyone entering on foot.
- Integral and attached garages: Remote control lets you operate the door as you approach the house, improving security and comfort when moving between car and home.
- Garages used for storage or hobbies: Easy one‑touch operation makes frequent access for bikes, tools, garden equipment or home gyms quick and hassle‑free.
- Accessibility and ease of use: Remote operation reduces the need to handle a manual door, which can be a major benefit for those who prefer lighter, push‑button control.
No Hood, Half Hood or Full Hood?
This door can be supplied with no hood, a half hood or a full hood over the curtain roll, depending on how and where you are installing it and how neat you want the finished appearance to be.
- No hood: Supplied as standard without a curtain roll hood cover. This is usually fine when you are installing fully behind the opening, as the roll is only visible from inside when the door is open. If you are relaxed about seeing the roll internally, no hood is a simple, cost‑effective option.
- Half hood: Generally chosen to provide a front fascia section. It is particularly useful when you do not have enough headroom to fully hide the roll, or when installing underneath the garage lintel and you want to cloak the exposed front of the roll from outside view.
- Full hood: Encloses the curtain roll more completely, giving a very neat, tidy finish and helping to improve weather protection and draught reduction overall. A full hood is recommended when the door is fitted completely to the outside face of the garage, or whenever the entire roll would otherwise be visible and exposed.
Choosing the right hood option depends on your installation position, available headroom and how important a fully concealed roll and enhanced weather protection are for your garage.

Installation Guidance – Samson SRD77 Remote (Somfy Rollixo Optimo)
The Samson SRD77 Remote with Somfy Rollixo Optimo control is designed for straightforward installation, combining a factory‑assembled roller door with a remote control system that uses handsets and a wireless internal wall switch (no physical buttons or light on the control panel itself). The door can be fitted behind, inbetween or (with suitable hooding and sealing) in front of the structural opening.
Pre‑installation checks
- Confirm the opening is reasonably square and plumb, with a solid fixing surface (brick, block, steel or suitable timber).
- Check that you have the correct motor side handing as specified on your order.
- Ensure there is sufficient headroom for the 300 mm roll and endplates, and adequate side room for the guides (70 mm or 90 mm each side, depending on door width).
- Arrange a suitable 230–240 V single‑phase power supply to the control position, installed by a competent person in line with current UK regulations.
Positioning guides and roll
- Marking out
Measure the structural opening and compare with the ordering sizes. Mark the finished door position and the centreline of the opening on the inside face, then mark the guide positions so they will be plumb and parallel. - Fixing the side guides
Offer up each aluminium guide, check with a spirit level that it is perfectly vertical, then fix through the pre‑drilled holes using appropriate fixings for the wall type. Ensure the guides remain straight and parallel from top to bottom. - Setting the roll and endplates
Lift the pre‑assembled roll and endplate unit into position above the opening, locating the endplates on top of the guides. Align so the curtain runs centrally in the guides, then fix the endplates securely back to the wall or supporting structure, keeping them level and ensuring the roll has adequate clearance.
Mounting the Somfy Rollixo Optimo control unit
- Control position
Select an internal wall position close to the motor side, within reach of the motor cable and mains supply. The control unit should be mounted at a convenient height, out of direct damp or splash zones, and with a clear area for the antenna to receive signals. - Fixing the control box
Fix the Rollixo Optimo enclosure to the wall using suitable fixings. Ensure the casing is level and secure, and that you can easily access the cover screws for future maintenance.
Electrical connection and remote setup
- Power supply
Bring the dedicated 230–240 V supply into the Rollixo Optimo control, connecting via the integral terminal block as per the supplied wiring diagram. Fit a local isolator so the system can be safely switched off for servicing. - Wiring the motor and safety edge
Connect the tube motor cable to the designated motor terminals inside the Rollixo Optimo. Connect the optical safety edge from the bottom seal to the appropriate inputs on the control unit, following the Somfy instructions carefully to maintain correct obstacle detection. - Pairing the handsets
Use the learn/programming procedure outlined in the Somfy Rollixo Optimo manual to pair the RTS handsets with the control unit. Each handset can then be tested to ensure it operates the door as expected. - Pairing the wireless wall switch
Pair the wireless internal wall switch with the Rollixo Optimo in the same way as a handset. Once paired, mount the switch on an internal wall within radio range, at a convenient height for everyday use.
Setting limits and testing safety functions
- Limit setting
Set the upper and lower travel limits using the procedure specified for the motor/Rollixo combination. The lower limit should bring the curtain down firmly but without excessive pressure; the upper limit should stop before the curtain overwinds or hits the motor fixings. - Operational tests
Run multiple open/close cycles using both a handset and the wireless wall switch. Check that the door travels smoothly, stays central in the guides and stops at the correct limits. - Safety edge test
With the door closing, introduce a suitable test object in the path of the bottom seal to confirm the optical safety edge detects the obstacle and causes the door to stop and reverse. Do not hand over the installation until this function is proven. - Manual override test
Engage the internal manual winding system and confirm that the door can be opened and closed smoothly by hand. Disengage the override and re‑test powered operation.
Hoods, sealing and finishing
- Fitting half or full hood (if specified)
Position the aluminium hood sections over the roll and fix them to the endplates and any support brackets following the supplied instructions. Make sure the hood is secure and does not interfere with the curtain path or guides. - Weather sealing
Seal gaps between guides, endplates and the wall with a suitable external‑grade sealant to improve weather resistance. Check the floor line and consider a threshold seal if there are uneven areas or small gaps. - Final checks
Inspect all fixings, cable runs and covers. Remove any protective films and clean down the curtain, guides and hood for a tidy finish.
User handover and safety notes
- Demonstrate operation using both the remote handsets and the wireless wall switch, and explain that the control panel itself has no buttons or indicator light.
- Explain the function of the optical safety edge and emphasise that the doorway should be kept clear while the door is moving.
- Show the user how to use the internal manual override (and any external low‑level override if fitted) in the event of a power failure.
- Point out the location of the mains isolator and advise that any future electrical work must be carried out by a suitably qualified person.
- Advise against boxing in the guides, hood, motor area or control unit so that future inspection and maintenance remain accessible.
When installed and set up correctly, the Samson SRD77 Remote with Somfy Rollixo Optimo provides a clean, modern installation with fully featured remote operation from both handsets and the wireless internal wall switch, while maintaining high safety and compliance standards.

Measuring and Ordering Guidance
Ordering sizes for this Samson roller garage door are based on the Over Guide Width (OGW) and Guide Height (GH) only – they do not include the endplates or the curtain roll (see 3D diagram below for reference).
- Guides are 75 mm wide on each side for doors up to 3000 mm wide.
- For doors over 3000 mm wide, the guides are 90 mm wide on each side.
For a standard behind‑fit installation:
- Clear Opening Width
Up to 3000 mm wide: Clear Opening Width = Ordering Width − 150 mm
Over 3000 mm and up to 5200 mm: Clear Opening Width = Ordering Width − 180 mm - Clear Opening Height
Clear Opening Height = Guide Height − 50 mm (allowing for the bottom slat sitting down into the guides).
The 300 mm endplates, which contain the motor and barrel, are added on top of the Guide Height to give the Overall Height required.
For inbetween‑fit (between reveal) installations:
Please contact us for specific sizing advice. You will need a half hood or full hood when fitting inbetween and underneath the lintel, and you should allow suitable fitting tolerances within your ordering dimensions.
