Multi Purpose Steel Doorsets

Multi Purpose, or General Purpose steel doorsets tend to describe our hinged doors which can be used in almost any application, but have a basic standard for general use where other performance declarations are not required, apart from the basic EN 14351-1. A ‘doorset’ should provide total reassurance in a product which has been designed, tested and manufactured in the same way every time from a single source manufacturer, ensuring a reliable and quality assured final result when installed. Hinged doors assembled from components on site, without control over their quality, tolerances, compatibility and combined integrity are not acceptable in commercial applications anymore. ‘What is a door?’ In its basic description - ‘a hinged barrier, or flat object to close the entrance to a building or room.’ BUT, what do you want that door to do, what is it’s real purpose, apart from being a basic barrier?

Why Steel for Doors?

General purpose doors perform that hinged door barrier as described above, but in a steel, double skinned construction, with a steel fixing outer frame, they do it very well indeed compared to most other door materials. In their basic form a higher quality, general purpose, steel doorset will provide a great barrier and the initial division comes from whether it is built for internal or external use on a building. The internal door most likely has no threshold for example and the external door needs a threshold to seal the door to prevent rain ingress and generally seal a lot better than the internal door. Most of our general purpose doorsets can be specified to higher levels of performance in multiple characteristics. Water tightness Security and resistance to forced attacks measured by time taken with specific tools Acoustic performance to prevent sound transmission Wind load resistance Ability to open instantly in an emergency even when locked from outside Prevention of smoke or other airborn gasses passing through the door Insulation against cold and heat and measured by a U value rating And so on… Many different performance features depending on the individual requirements or indeed the requirements for the environment based on compliance with regulations and certification to standards required.
