Design and appearance
The Carteck Switch Centre Ribbed Vertical door uses tall, evenly spaced ribs to create a more traditional, upright appearance. The vertical lines emphasise height and give the door a classic boarded feel, making it a versatile choice for properties that benefit from a slightly more period look.
This design works well on a wide range of house styles, from suburban homes through to more formal façades. Available in white, black and anthracite grey, the door can be specified to match existing joinery or to create a deliberate contrast on a plainer elevation.
Construction and insulation
Built from solid 40mm thick interlocking insulated panels, the door provides excellent strength and thermal performance with a U‑value of 2.30 W/m²K. The double‑skinned steel construction with a rigid foam core helps to regulate internal temperature and reduce draughts, making the garage a more comfortable space.
The aluminium hollow section frame is designed for long‑term durability and corrosion resistance, while double weather strips on the leaves and a three‑sided strip on the frame ensure excellent draught control. Mitred corner joints give a neat, professional appearance.
Operation and configuration
The Carteck Switch operates as an outward‑opening, side‑hinged doorset with no internal tracks or ceiling gear. Three surface‑mounted aluminium hinges per leaf are easily adjusted for precise operation, and each leaf features an easy‑action friction stay to hold the door open during use.
The door can be configured as left or right hand leading to suit the site layout. The inactive leaf is secured with adjustable flush bolts at the top and bottom, while the active leaf features a stainless steel handle and high‑security lock cylinder certified to BS EN1303 Grade 2, providing anti‑drill and anti‑pick protection along with a combination latch and deadbolt.
Finishes, textures and colours
The Switch range is offered with a smooth surface finish in three standard colours: white, black and anthracite grey. These popular shades allow easy coordination with existing windows, doors and cladding without the need for bespoke colour matching.
The internal face is supplied in a light colour to keep the garage bright and usable. Externally, the vertical ribbing combined with the chosen colour creates a door with visual interest and a traditional feel that suits many property types.
Sizing and installation
The Carteck Switch is available in six standard sizes specifically designed to replace common up‑and‑over garage doors or suit standard new‑build openings. Over‑frame sizes range from 2254mm to 2406mm wide and 2041mm to 2240mm high, making it straightforward to switch from old doors without major structural alterations.
Doors are supplied pre‑assembled as complete doorsets with the frame and leaves factory aligned. Wind‑out lugs simplify installation and eliminate the need for packers. The aluminium strip threshold provides a low‑profile finish, and the blade seal at the bottom of each leaf helps control draughts and water ingress.
With a fast lead time of just 2–3 weeks (location dependent), the Switch range is ideal for renovation and upgrade projects where delivery speed is important.
