Hörmann RollMatic T – Decopaint Timber-Effect Finish

The RollMatic T with Decopaint finish delivers the warm aesthetic of timber without the maintenance burden. This factory-applied paint system replicates a natural wood grain appearance on both the interior and exterior faces of the door, offering a cost-effective alternative to real timber or Decograin foil finishes.

What is Decopaint?

Decopaint is a painted timber-effect coating applied directly to the aluminium curtain profiles during manufacture. Unlike a laminate or film overlay, the finish is sprayed onto the metal surface in multiple layers, creating a wood-grain pattern that mimics traditional joinery.

While not as abrasion-resistant as the premium Decograin foil finish, Decopaint provides a convincing timber look at a lower price point. It suits properties with brick, stone, or rendered facades where a softer, more natural door colour complements the architecture better than a stark metallic finish.

Available Colours

The RollMatic T Decopaint range includes two timber-effect options:

  • Decopaint Golden Oak: A mid-tone honey oak with subtle grain detailing. Works well with traditional red brick and sandstone.
  • Decopaint Rosewood: A richer, darker mahogany tone with pronounced grain. Suited to period properties and darker brickwork.

Construction & Colour Coordination

With Decopaint doors, the curtain profiles are painted on both sides in the chosen timber effect. The side guides, fascia panel, and barrel casing are powder-coated in a complementary solid colour (typically brown or a base tone matching the decor) rather than the full timber pattern. This keeps costs down while maintaining a cohesive appearance.

Practical Considerations

Durability: Decopaint finishes carry a 5-year warranty, compared to 10 years for standard RAL colours. The painted surface can show wear over time, particularly if exposed to abrasive cleaning or high wind-blown debris. Scuffs and scratches will reveal the aluminium substrate beneath.

Maintenance: Clean the door periodically with warm soapy water and a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, pressure washers, or solvents, which can strip the decorative coating. Touch-ups are not practical due to the printed grain pattern, so care during use is important.

UV Stability: The coating is UV-resistant but will fade slightly over several years, particularly on south-facing installations. This gradual weathering is similar to external joinery and is considered normal wear.

Who Should Choose Decopaint?

Decopaint is ideal if you want the appearance of timber joinery without the annual re-staining or the higher cost of Decograin. It works particularly well for:

  • Properties in rural or semi-rural locations where natural tones blend with the surroundings.
  • Conservation areas where planning guidance favours traditional materials and finishes.
  • Budget-conscious projects where a premium aesthetic is desired but cost constraints apply.

Specification Summary

  • Finish: Multi-layer painted timber-effect coating (interior and exterior).
  • Frame Components: Side guides, fascia panel, and barrel casing in complementary solid colour.
  • Warranty: 5 years on Decopaint finish; 10 years on door mechanism and operator.

Installation

Installation & Fitting Requirements

The Hörmann RollMatic T is designed for straightforward installation, but precise measuring is critical to ensure the door fits your opening correctly. Please read the following guidelines before placing your order.

Fitting Locations

This door is engineered for two specific installation scenarios:

  1. Internal Face Fix (Recommended): The door is fitted to the inside face of the garage wall. The guides and box sit behind the opening, maximizing your drive-through width and height.
  2. Reveal Fix (In-Between): The door is fitted within the opening itself (between the brickwork jambs). The guides and box sit inside the reveal, reducing the drive-through width and height.

Note: We do not recommend this model for external face installation. If you require an external fitting, please view the SeceuroGlide range.

Headroom & Sideroom Requirements

To fit the door comfortably, you must ensure you have sufficient clear space internally:

  • Headroom (Box Size):
    • Doors ≤ 2300 mm high: 290 mm clear headroom required.
    • Doors > 2300 mm high: 335 mm clear headroom required.
  • Sideroom (Guide Width):
    • Doors ≤ 3000 mm wide: 75 mm required on each side.
    • Doors > 3000 mm wide: 105 mm required on each side.

Measuring & Ordering

Crucial Information: Hörmann RollMatic T ordering sizes refer to the Daylight Opening Width (the width between the guide rails) and the Guide Height (the height of the guide rails, excluding the box).

1. For Internal Face Fixing (Behind Opening)

  • Ordering Width: Measure your structural opening width. This is your Ordering Width. The guides (75mm or 105mm each side) will fit behind the pillars, overlapping the brickwork.
  • Ordering Height: Measure your structural opening height. This is your Ordering Height. The box (290mm or 335mm) will sit above the lintel.
  • Result: You retain your full structural opening for driving through.

2. For Reveal Fixing (In-Between Opening)

  • Ordering Width: Measure the tightest structural width between your brickwork. Deduct the total guide width (e.g., 150mm or 210mm) to get your Ordering Width.
  • Ordering Height: Measure the tightest structural height from floor to lintel. Deduct the box height (e.g., 290mm or 335mm) to get your Ordering Height.
  • Result: The door fits inside the hole, but your drive-through width and height will be reduced by the guides and box.

Electrical Connection

The motor is supplied with a connection cable and a standard 3-pin plug. It requires a standard 230V / 240V mains supply. The control unit should be mounted internally within reach of the power point.

Floor Level

The door is supplied with a flexible EPDM rubber bottom seal. While this can accommodate minor irregularities in the floor, the ground should be reasonably level to ensure the optosensors function correctly and to provide a weather-tight seal.

Warranty

As an authorised distributor, Samson Doors supplies Hörmann products that are manufactured to the highest German quality standards. Every door leaves the factory only after rigorous testing. However, should you have grounds for a complaint, this section outlines the warranty coverage provided by Hörmann (UK) Ltd and how to make a claim through us.

Making a Claim

In the unlikely event that a warranty claim is necessary, please contact Samson Doors directly as your original supplier. We will assist you in processing the claim with Hörmann's Product Services Department.

To ensure your claim is processed quickly, please provide us with the following:

  1. Your name, address, and telephone number.
  2. Original invoice with the date of purchase.
  3. Product description, door type, and product number (found on the identification label).
  4. A clear description of the defect.

An assessment will then be made, which may require Hörmann to inspect the product in-situ. Note: If no legitimate warranty claim is found under the terms specified, you may be liable for the costs of the inspection visit.

Warranty Periods

Hörmann grants a warranty covering the safe and reliable function of the garage door from the date of purchase:

Care & Maintenance

To maintain your warranty validity, please adhere to the following care instructions:

Steel Doors (Painted & Decograin)

The coating process is environmentally friendly but requires care. Minor scratches or marks are not covered and should be repaired immediately to prevent corrosion. Corrosive substances (acids, alkalines, salts, bird droppings) must be cleaned off immediately to prevent finish deterioration.

Repairing Paintwork: If the finish deteriorates, prepare the surface lightly with wet and dry paper. Treat with a solvent-based 2-pack epoxy wash primer, followed by a normal commercial paint. Do not use cellulose paint.

Please refer to the care and usage instructions displayed on the stickers on the back of your garage door for full details.
