Hörmann RollMatic T Aluminium Roller Garage Door
The RollMatic T brings Hörmann’s German engineering and build quality to a space-saving, tubular motor design. It is engineered specifically for garages with limited headroom or side clearance, offering a robust, automated solution without the complexity of the standard spring-balanced model.
You get the reliability of a door manufactured in Germany, backed by a 10-year warranty on the door and operator, ensuring long-term performance rather than just a quick fix.
Construction and Durability
The curtain consists of double-skinned aluminium profiles filled with rigid foam. Unlike single-skin doors, this offers better stability and quieter operation. The curtain connects to the barrel using a robust extruded aluminium section (powder-coated white), ensuring a secure hold that won’t warp over time.
- Wind Resistance: Standard doors achieve Wind Load Class 3 (up to 3000 mm width). With optional wind locks, this increases to Class 4, making it stable even in exposed locations.
- Sealing: The vertical side guides come fitted with brush seals as standard. These reduce draughts and ensure the curtain runs smoothly without rattling.
- Finish: The smooth external profile is easier to clean than traditional ribbed slats. It comes in 16 factory-finished colours that are resistant to weathering.
Space-Saving Drive System
The “T” stands for tubular. The electric motor sits inside the winding shaft, removing the need for a bulky external drive unit. This is critical if you have shelving or piping near the garage opening.
- Headroom: You need only 290 mm of clear space above the opening for the curtain roll.
- Sideroom: The guides require just 75 mm on each side (for doors up to 3000 mm wide).
- Motor Position: The motor is factory-fitted to the Left Hand Side (viewed from inside).
Operation and Safety
The door is automated as standard, using Hörmann’s proprietary BiSecur radio system.
- Security: The 868 MHz BiSecur radio uses 128-bit encryption (banking level security), so the signal cannot be copied by potential intruders.
- Controls: The internal control unit features an integrated LED light to illuminate your garage when operating the door. It includes two buttons for operation and comes with two 4-button hand transmitters (HSE 4 BS) in a textured black finish.
- Safety Edge: An optosensor in the bottom seal detects obstacles immediately. The standard version uses a spiral cable to transmit the signal, but you can upgrade to a wireless radio transmission unit for a cleaner look without loose cables.
- Emergency Use: If power fails, you are not stuck. A manual crank handle is provided to operate the door from the inside.
Installation Benefits
The RollMatic T is designed to be easier to fit than many competitors. The winding shaft comes pre-assembled with the curtain cover, and the side guides are pre-drilled with standard backfill. This reduces time on site and ensures a square, accurate fit.
Important Fitting Note: This door is designed for installation behind the opening (internal face fix) or in the opening (between jambs). It is not recommended for external face fitting.

The Hörmann RollMatic T is engineered to solve specific architectural challenges. Its vertical opening mechanism and compact tubular drive make it an excellent problem-solver for garages where space is at a premium or where driveway access is restricted. Below are the key scenarios where this door excels.
1. Short Driveways & Abutting Pavements
Because the RollMatic T opens vertically without swinging out, it is the ideal choice for properties with short driveways. You can park a vehicle right up to the door and still operate it without risk of collision. This is also a legal necessity for garages that open directly onto a public pavement or street, where an up-and-over door would project into public space.
2. Garages with Ceiling Obstructions
Unlike sectional doors or retractable up-and-over doors, the RollMatic T does not require horizontal tracks running back into the garage. The entire door coils neatly into a box above the opening.
- Roof Storage: Keeps your ceiling space free for storing ladders, surfboards, or roof boxes.
- High Vehicles: Ideal if you have a 4x4 or SUV and need maximum height clearance inside the garage for the boot to open.
- Obstructions: Perfect for garages with lighting, shelving, or pipework that would block the tracks of a standard door.
3. Maximising Drive-Through Width
When fitted behind the opening (Internal Face Fix), the RollMatic T allows you to utilise the full structural width of your garage entrance. This is crucial for older, narrower garages built in the 1960s or 70s, where modern, wider cars often struggle to fit through standard frame-fitted doors.
4. Arched & Non-Standard Openings
The RollMatic T is a perfect solution for arched openings (segmental or Norman arches). Because the door mounts behind the brickwork, the rectangular tracks and curtain do not interfere with the shape of the arch. You retain the aesthetic appeal of the archway while gaining the security and insulation of a modern door.
5. Integrated Workshops & Home Gyms
If you use your garage for more than just parking—such as a gym, workshop, or utility room—the RollMatic T adds value:
- Insulation: The foam-filled aluminium slats provide a thermal barrier, helping to keep the space warmer in winter and reducing draughts compared to a single-skin steel door.
- Acoustics: The twin-walled construction helps dampen noise, which is beneficial if you are using power tools inside.
6. Security-Conscious Locations
For homes requiring enhanced security, the RollMatic T removes the obvious leverage points found on manual doors. The automated motor holds the door firmly in the closed position, and the inclusion of the BiSecur radio system prevents "code-grabbing" by tech-savvy intruders.

Installation & Fitting Requirements
The Hörmann RollMatic T is designed for straightforward installation, but precise measuring is critical to ensure the door fits your opening correctly. Please read the following guidelines before placing your order.
Fitting Locations
This door is engineered for two specific installation scenarios:
- Internal Face Fix (Recommended): The door is fitted to the inside face of the garage wall. The guides and box sit behind the opening, maximizing your drive-through width and height.
- Reveal Fix (In-Between): The door is fitted within the opening itself (between the brickwork jambs). The guides and box sit inside the reveal, reducing the drive-through width and height.
Note: We do not recommend this model for external face installation. If you require an external fitting, please view the SeceuroGlide range.
Headroom & Sideroom Requirements
To fit the door comfortably, you must ensure you have sufficient clear space internally:
- Headroom (Box Size):
- Doors ≤ 2300 mm high: 290 mm clear headroom required.
- Doors > 2300 mm high: 335 mm clear headroom required.
- Sideroom (Guide Width):
- Doors ≤ 3000 mm wide: 75 mm required on each side.
- Doors > 3000 mm wide: 105 mm required on each side.
Measuring & Ordering
Crucial Information: Hörmann RollMatic T ordering sizes refer to the Daylight Opening Width (the width between the guide rails) and the Guide Height (the height of the guide rails, excluding the box).
1. For Internal Face Fixing (Behind Opening)
- Ordering Width: Measure your structural opening width. This is your Ordering Width. The guides (75mm or 105mm each side) will fit behind the pillars, overlapping the brickwork.
- Ordering Height: Measure your structural opening height. This is your Ordering Height. The box (290mm or 335mm) will sit above the lintel.
- Result: You retain your full structural opening for driving through.
2. For Reveal Fixing (In-Between Opening)
- Ordering Width: Measure the tightest structural width between your brickwork. Deduct the total guide width (e.g., 150mm or 210mm) to get your Ordering Width.
- Ordering Height: Measure the tightest structural height from floor to lintel. Deduct the box height (e.g., 290mm or 335mm) to get your Ordering Height.
- Result: The door fits inside the hole, but your drive-through width and height will be reduced by the guides and box.
Electrical Connection
The motor is supplied with a connection cable and a standard 3-pin plug. It requires a standard 230V / 240V mains supply. The control unit should be mounted internally within reach of the power point.
Floor Level
The door is supplied with a flexible EPDM rubber bottom seal. While this can accommodate minor irregularities in the floor, the ground should be reasonably level to ensure the optosensors function correctly and to provide a weather-tight seal.

Steel Doors (Painted & Decograin)
The coating process is environmentally friendly but requires care. Minor scratches or marks are not covered and should be repaired immediately to prevent corrosion. Corrosive substances (acids, alkalines, salts, bird droppings) must be cleaned off immediately to prevent finish deterioration.
Repairing Paintwork: If the finish deteriorates, prepare the surface lightly with wet and dry paper. Treat with a solvent-based 2-pack epoxy wash primer, followed by a normal commercial paint. Do not use cellulose paint.
Please refer to the care and usage instructions displayed on the stickers on the back of your garage door for full details.
