DescriptionMetador Defender PASGuard – PAS 24 Rated Steel Doorset
The Metador Defender PASGuard is a made-to-measure PAS 24 steel security doorset for domestic entrances and lighter commercial use, designed to deliver certified attack resistance without forcing you into a plain, industrial-looking door. It is Secured by Design approved and supplied as a complete steel doorset (leaf and frame) to suit your opening and preferred appearance.
Why choose a PAS 24 steel door?
PAS 24 is the recognised UK security test standard for enhanced-resistance doorsets, and PASGuard is third-party tested to this standard to help provide confidence against opportunist attack. For new-build residential projects, PAS 24-rated doorsets are commonly specified to support the security intent of Building Regulations Part Q.
Made to measure, made to suit
Because PASGuard is built to order, it can be specified to match the building rather than relying on stock sizes. Alongside a wide powder-coated colour choice (including 200+ RAL options and specialist finishes), the steel leaf can also be produced with pressed panel designs, plus optional vision panels and matching side/overpanels for a more “front door” look.
Robust construction and everyday performance
- Heavy-duty single-rebate steel frame (90mm deep) with bolted corners and multiple fixing points for a secure installation.
- Double-skinned galvanised steel door leaf (1.5mm) with anti-jemmy detailing to help resist levering attack.
- Mineral wool insulated core and bonded tubular frame seals to support thermal, acoustic and weather performance (typical U-values around 2.2 W/m²K).
Hardware and configuration options
PASGuard can be tailored with a wide range of ironmongery, including multipoint locking, lever handle sets, closers, panic hardware and access control–ready lock cases, allowing the doorset to be configured for different entrance requirements. Tested configurations include inward or outward opening, double doors, larger PAS 24-approved vision panels, and an extra heavy-duty louvre system where secure ventilation is required.
Typical PASGuard applications
This PAS 24 steel doorset is a strong fit for residential entrances and apartment blocks, as well as plant rooms, bin stores and other lighter commercial or mixed-use areas where security matters but the door is still visible to the public. It’s an ideal mid-range option when you need a certified PAS24 security door with better design flexibility than a basic utility steel door.
ApplicationApplications for the Metador Defender PASGuard
The PASGuard is designed for any residential, commercial or light industrial building where PAS 24 compliance is required—either to meet Building Regulations Part Q, satisfy insurance requirements, or provide enhanced entrance security without compromising on appearance.
Residential and multi-occupancy buildings
- New-build houses and conversions: Part Q of the Building Regulations requires all accessible doors and windows in new dwellings to meet PAS 24, making PASGuard an ideal front or side entrance solution.
- Apartments, flats and social housing: Entrance doors to individual units, as well as communal entrance lobbies, bin stores and shared plant rooms.
- Garage conversions and annexes: Where a garage or outbuilding becomes habitable space, a PAS 24 doorset helps meet regulatory standards and provides residents with greater peace of mind.
Commercial and mixed-use properties
- Retail outlets and offices: Staff entrances, back-of-house access and front doors in higher-risk locations where insurance or lease terms stipulate enhanced security.
- Schools, nurseries and community centres: External entrance doors and internal doors separating public areas from restricted zones.
- Plant rooms and service areas: Secure access to utilities, boiler rooms, storage and equipment where theft or vandalism is a concern.
Why specify PAS 24?
PAS 24 is the recognised UK standard for doorsets and windows designed to resist opportunistic attack. It sets out minimum performance requirements and test criteria, meaning any doorset certified to PAS 24 has been independently assessed for forced-entry resistance. Doors built to this standard are not only more secure—they are also manufactured to tighter tolerances with higher-quality components, resulting in greater durability and longevity.
Part Q and replacement doors
Since 2015, Part Q of the Building Regulations has mandated PAS 24 compliance for all doors and windows fitted to new dwellings in England. While this does not currently extend to replacement doors in existing homes, specifying a PAS 24 doorset such as the Defender PASGuard is a clear upgrade for homeowners, landlords and property managers seeking to improve security, meet insurance standards, or future-proof their building against tightening regulations.

InstallationInstallation Guide: Metador Defender PASGuard
Installing a steel security doorset is straightforward for a competent installer, and the PASGuard system is designed to speed up alignment on site. The adjustable sub-frame uses threaded adjusters (jacking screws) and multiple fixing points to help you achieve a precise, secure fit without relying on lots of shims and packers.
Important: To preserve PAS 24 performance, the doorset must be installed as supplied and in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions (correct fixings, frame alignment, hardware and latch/lock engagement).
Tools and materials required
- SDS drill (hammer action)
- Impact driver / cordless drill
- Long spirit level (essential)
- Tape measure and pencil/marker
- 14 mm spanner
- Large hex key (for frame adjusters, if supplied)
- 10 mm / 12 mm masonry drill bits (match to your chosen fixings)
- Suitable structural fixings for the substrate (masonry/steel/timber) and packers for localised levelling if required
- External-grade sealant (LM silicone or hybrid polymer) and backing rod (where needed)
- PPE: gloves, eye protection, hearing protection
Step-by-step installation
- Prepare the opening
Clear debris and check the structural opening is sound. Confirm the aperture size matches the doorset order and check the floor level; if the floor is out of level you may need minimal packing under the frame legs so the head stays perfectly horizontal.
- Remove the leaf (optional)
If access is tight or you’re working solo, remove the door leaf from the hinges to make the frame easier to handle. Protect finished surfaces during handling.
- Offer up the frame
Wind the threaded frame adjusters so they sit flush with the outer face of the frame, then position the frame into the aperture. Centralise it roughly so you have even clearance to the structure on both sides.
- Set and lightly clamp with adjusters
Use the 14 mm spanner/hex key to wind out the upper adjusters (hinge side and lock side) until they gently contact the surrounding wall and hold the frame in place. Do not fully tighten at this stage.
- Plumb and fix the hinge side first
Using the spirit level, set the hinge jamb perfectly vertical (left-to-right and front-to-back). Drill and install the top hinge-side fixing, then work down the jamb: adjust, check plumb, drill, fix—repeating at each fixing point.
- Re-hang the door leaf and check clearances
Refit the leaf and check the reveal at the head and hinge side is consistent. If the

Measure
A steel doorset is always ordered by the OVERALL dimensions including the door leaf and outer sub fixing frame with no tolerances allowed for. Most people would generally allow 5mm tolerance all the way around the door, but it all depends on how square or true your aperture is on site. This is up to your judgement based on the aperture quality.
This would mean if your structural opening size is measured as 1000mm width and 2100mm height the door and frame ought to be 990mm wide and 2090mm high with the frame and any threshold included.
Always measure the top, middle and bottom of your aperture width and the left and right hand side for the height and if possible do a measure to make sure the opening is square as well..
Always use millimetres for measuring as this is how we relay back the ordering dimensions to you for checking and approving a drawing for your order.
We will always send a drawing for approval before manufacturing commences.
