Samson Defender Extreme-2: High-Security Double Steel Doorset
LPS 1175 B3 (SR2) Certified | Double Leaf | Made to Measure
The Samson Defender Extreme-2 is a heavy-duty double leaf steel security doorset, rigorously tested and accredited by the BRE to meet the stringent LPS 1175: Issue 8 B3 standard (formerly known as SR2).
Designed for larger openings that require certified protection, this doorset provides a verified delay against opportunistic attacks using tools such as bolt cutters, claw hammers, and drills. It is the ideal solution for securing wider entrances, goods-in areas, and plant rooms where a standard single door offers insufficient width.
Manufactured entirely in the UK by Metador, these doorsets are custom-built to your exact specification.
(Please note: To maintain its security certification, the double leaf configuration is available as outward opening only.)
Certified Security Performance
We offer the Defender Extreme range in three distinct levels of certified resistance, ensuring you can match the door to your specific risk assessment:
- B3 (SR2): Resists serious attempts at forced entry using a range of hand tools for at least 3 minutes.
- C5 (SR3): Enhanced resistance against more aggressive toolkits for at least 5 minutes.
- D10 (SR4): Maximum resistance against heavy-duty tools for at least 10 minutes.
Sizes & Configuration
The Defender Extreme-2 is a true "made-to-measure" product, capable of securing very large structural openings without compromising its certification.
- Maximum Width: Up to 2800mm (or 4900mm with certified side panels).
- Maximum Height: Up to 2500mm (or 3440mm with a certified top transom).
- Construction: Supplied as a complete unit with the leaves pre-hung in a heavy-duty steel sub-frame, factory-fitted with all relevant hardware to ensure compliant installation.
Hardware & Functionality
Compliance doesn't mean compromise. The Defender Extreme-2 is compatible with a wide range of LPS 1175 approved hardware to suit your operational needs:
- Panic Hardware: Certified double panic bars for emergency escape routes.
- Access Control: Code locks and maglock compatible systems.
- Closers & Stays: Heavy-duty friction stays and door closers to control door movement in high-traffic or windy locations.
Finishes & Durability
Every doorset is finished with a high-quality Polyester Powder Coating (PPC) in any standard RAL colour, allowing it to blend seamlessly with your building's façade or match corporate branding.
Marine Grade Upgrade: For coastal properties or environments with high salinity/pollution, we offer a specialized marine-grade finish to prevent corrosion and extend the lifespan of the steel.
Applications (Internal & External)
While primarily engineered as an external security barrier, the Defender Extreme-2 is equally effective as an internal secure line (e.g., for server rooms or high-value storage).
Threshold Warning: Please verify the threshold arrangement for internal use to ensure it meets your flooring requirements. We offer optional low-profile thresholds to assist with DDA compliance and smooth transition.
Unique Feature Options
The Defender Extreme-2 (SR2) offers exceptional versatility beyond standard security doors:
- Ventilation: Can be specified with louvered panel inserts to provide airflow for plant rooms without compromising the SR2 security rating.
- Fire Rating: Available with Fire Rated certification up to 120 minutes (FD120), combining high security and fire safety in one doorset.
- Side & Over Panels: A comprehensive range of solid, glazed, or louvered side and over panels can be integrated to fill larger apertures while maintaining full LPS 1175 compliance.
The Defender Extreme-2 Double Doorset (LPS 1175 B3 / SR2) is the industry standard solution for securing large openings against opportunistic forced entry. It bridges the gap between basic steel doors and high-level fortress specification, making it ideal for the following applications.
1. Utilities & Infrastructure
Primary Use: Unmanned remote sites where response times are slower but a verified delay is critical.
- Water & Gas Substations: Protecting pumps and valves from vandalism while allowing double-leaf access for maintenance teams and machinery replacement.
- Telecoms Cabins: Securing sensitive communications equipment in remote locations.
- Plant Rooms: Often specified with louvered panels to allow generator airflow without compromising the B3 security rating.
2. Warehousing & Logistics
Primary Use: Hardening goods-in and service areas against break-ins.
- Rear Emergency Exits: Protecting the "back of house" from determined thieves while ensuring compliant emergency escape via panic bars for staff.
- Maintenance Access: Wide double doors allow forklifts or pallet trucks to move large items in and out of secure zones.
- High Value Storage Cages: Creating a secure internal perimeter within a larger warehouse for bonded goods or high-value stock (e.g., electronics, alcohol).
3. Data Centres & Server Rooms
Primary Use: Physical protection of critical IT infrastructure.
- Service Entrances: Large double doors are essential for moving server racks and cooling units into the facility. The B3 rating satisfies insurance requirements for physical data protection.
- Secure Corridors: Acting as a physical airlock between public zones and secure server halls.
4. Retail & Commercial
Primary Use: Protecting stockrooms and delivery bays in high-risk locations.
- Delivery Doors: Double doors allow efficient pallet deliveries. The robust steel construction withstands the daily impact of cages and trolleys far better than timber or standard aluminium doors.
- Shopping Centre Service Yards: Providing a secure barrier between the public service yard and the private retail units.
5. Public Sector & Education
Primary Use: Preventing vandalism and burglary in community buildings.
- School & University Plant Rooms: Securing boiler rooms and electrical intakes from unauthorised access.
- Sports Pavilions: Protecting equipment stores in isolated playing fields.

Installation Guide: DIY vs. Professional
The Metador Defender Doorset is designed with the installer in mind, featuring a unique "Fast-Fit" adjustable frame system. However, due to its heavy-duty construction, it is physically demanding to handle.
1. Handling & Weight (Critical Warning)
Do not underestimate the weight of this door.
- Weight: A single Level 2 or Level 3 steel door can weigh in excess of 80kg - 120kg depending on size and core specification. Double doors will be heavier
- Manpower: We strongly recommend a minimum of 2 strong people for offloading and positioning. For larger or solid-core doors, 3 people or mechanical lifting aids (genie lift/glass lifter) are advised.
- Delivery State:
- Single Doors: Typically delivered fully assembled (door leaf pre-hung in the frame). You may need to separate the leaf from the frame to reduce weight for positioning.
- Double Doors: Often delivered with the frame and leaves separate to make handling manageable.
2. The "Fast-Fit" Adjustable Frame
The Extreme features a clever frame design that removes the need for fiddly packers or shims.
- Adjusters: The frame is fitted with roughly 16 threaded hexagonal adjusters (depending on size).
- Method:
- Place the frame in the opening.
- Use a cordless drill with a hex bit to wind out the adjusters until they grip the wall.
- This temporarily "clamps" the frame in place, allowing you to fine-tune the level and plumb without holding the full weight.
- Once perfectly level, you drill through the centre of the adjusters into the masonry/steelwork and bolt it home.
3. Tools Required
- SDS Drill (for masonry fixing holes).
- Impact Driver (for driving concrete bolts).
- Long Spirit Level (1800mm+) – Essential for checking the hinge jamb is 100% vertical.
- 12mm / 14mm Hex Bit (for frame adjusters).
- Crowbar / Air Wedge (for final lifting/positioning).
4. Should I Install It Myself?
DIY / Builder
Pros: Save on labour costs.
Cons: Handling the weight can be dangerous without experience. If the frame is not fitted 100% square (even 2mm out), the heavy door will not latch correctly or may swing open/closed on its own.
Professional Door Installer
Pros: They will have the lifting gear and experience to handle the weight safely. They understand how to "toe-and-heel" glaze and adjust heavy-duty hinges for perfect operation.
Cons: Higher initial cost.
Recommendation: If you are an experienced builder with a helper, the "Fast-Fit" system makes this a straightforward job. If you are a DIY novice, we strongly advise hiring a professional purely due to the health and safety risks of handling heavy steel doors.
Warranty Statement: Defender Extreme-2
The Samson Defender Extreme-2 is built to last. Your doorset is covered by a comprehensive warranty package provided by Samson Doors and backed directly by the manufacturer, Metador. This warranty reflects the superior engineering required to achieve LPS 1175 certification.
1. Structural Guarantee (Steelwork)
- Duration: Up to 15 Years (Subject to Maintenance).
- Coverage: We guarantee the main steel framework and door leaf against manufacturing defects, structural failure, and weld integrity.
- Condition: The door must be installed correctly (square, plumb, and without twist) and maintained according to the O&M manual. A documented maintenance log is required to validate long-term claims.
2. Finish Guarantee (Powder Coating)
| Finish Type | Warranty Period | Coverage & Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Standard PPC (Polyester Powder Coat) |
1 Year | Covers peeling, flaking, or significant fading. Excludes damage from impact, chemical cleaners, or harsh environments (e.g., within 2 miles of the coast) unless specified. |
| Marine Grade PPC (Upgrade Option) |
10 Years | Essential for coastal/industrial sites. Provides guaranteed protection against salt spray and corrosion. Condition: The finish must be cleaned periodically (and recorded) to remove salt deposits. |
3. Hardware & Moving Parts
- Duration: 1 Year (Manufacturer's Warranty).
- Coverage: Locks, handles, panic bars, hinges, and closers are guaranteed against mechanical failure.
- Important Note for Security Doors:
- Lubrication: Heavy-duty security hinges and multi-point locks must be lubricated every 3-6 months. Failure to do so will cause seizing and is not covered by warranty.
- Misuse: Forcing a key, slamming the door against the closer, or leaving the door buffered open in high winds are excluded.
4. Certification & Warranty Validity
Crucial for LPS 1175 Doors:
- Modifications: You must not drill extra holes, cut the door, or fit non-approved hardware (e.g., extra chains, doorbells, or unchecked locks). Doing so will void both the Warranty AND the Security Certification immediately.
- Installation: If the frame is installed out of square, the multi-point locks may bind. This is an installation issue, not a product fault, and is not covered by warranty.
5. Making a Claim
In the unlikely event of a fault, please contact the Samson Doors team.
- Reporting: Defects visible on delivery must be reported within 3 working days with photographic evidence.
- Procedure: Provide your Order Reference, photos of the fault, and a copy of your maintenance log (if applicable).
- Remedy: Valid claims will be resolved via replacement parts or, where necessary, a replacement unit. (Warranty covers parts only; labour is excluded unless installed by Samson).
How to Measure for Your Metador Defender Doorset
Getting the measurements right is critical. Steel doorsets are precision-engineered products and cannot be trimmed or planed on site like timber doors. Please follow this guide to determine the correct ORDERING SIZE.
1. Measure the Structural Opening
Measure the raw aperture (brick-to-brick or steel-to-steel) where the door will be installed.
- Width: Measure at the Top, Middle, and Bottom of the opening.
Record the smallest dimension. - Height: Measure at the Left, Centre, and Right from the lintel to the finished floor level.
Record the smallest dimension. - Diagonals: Measure corner-to-corner to check if the opening is square. If there is a significant difference (more than 5-10mm), you may need to allow extra tolerance.
2. Calculate Your Ordering Size
We recommend the following tolerances for the Metador Defender frame:
- Width: Deduct 10mm from your smallest structural width (5mm clearance per side).
- Height: Deduct 10mm from your smallest structural height (5mm at the top, 5mm at the bottom).
Calculation Example:
- Smallest Structural Opening: 1000mm (W) x 2100mm (H)
- Minus Tolerance: -10mm (Width) | -10mm (Height)
- ORDER SIZE: 990mm x 2090mm
3. The "Fast-Fit" Frame System
The Metador Defender Xtraguard is supplied with a high-tensile steel frame featuring adjustable fixing points.
- Adjustment: The frame is fitted with threaded adjusters (dog-bolts) that wind out to bridge the 5mm gap you have allowed.
- Why the tolerance matters: This 5mm gap allows you to slide the frame into the opening easily and shim/adjust it until it is perfectly square and plumb, even if your brickwork is slightly uneven.
Important Reminders
- Thresholds: The "Overall Order Height" includes the threshold. If you are installing on top of a finished floor, measure from that floor level. If you are recessing the threshold, measure from the sub-floor.
- Opening Direction: Check if there are any obstructions (rainwater pipes, walls, uneven ground) that might stop the door opening fully to 180 degrees if required.
- Metric Only: Always measure and order in Millimetres (mm).
Once your order is placed, we will produce a CAD drawing for you to sign off before manufacture begins. This is your final safety net to check the sizes.
