Description

Samson Spiral ISO 50

The Samson Spiral ISO 50 is a premium, high-speed insulated roller door engineered for demanding industrial and commercial environments. Designed to offer the ultimate "three-in-one" solution, it combines the rapid operation of a fast-action fabric door with the robust security and thermal efficiency of a traditional insulated sectional door.

Because every facility has unique operational demands, the Spiral ISO 50 is manufactured entirely to order. Specifications, dimensions, and control methods are tailored to your exact project requirements, meaning this product is strictly available on a Price on Application (POA) basis.

The Ultimate Hybrid Door

Traditional industrial doors often force a compromise: fast-action fabric doors offer speed but lack security and insulation, while steel sectional doors offer security but operate too slowly for high-traffic areas. The Samson Spiral ISO 50 eliminates this compromise.

Utilising a rigid, double-skinned insulated curtain and a unique contactless spiral winding system, the door operates at exceptional speeds without the panels ever touching. This results in ultra-smooth, whisper-quiet operation that drastically reduces component wear, even in environments operating 24/7.

Core Advantages

  • Uncompromising Security: Rigid interlocking panels provide a formidable physical barrier against forced entry and severe weather, making it highly suitable for exposed external openings.
  • Climate & Energy Control: High-density polyurethane insulation helps maintain internal temperatures, reducing heat loss and cutting energy costs in temperature-controlled zones.
  • Seamless Traffic Flow: Rapid opening and closing cycles eliminate bottlenecks for vehicles and personnel, improving overall site efficiency and safety.
  • Preserved Aesthetics: The patented spiral tracking prevents the door panels from scraping against one another, preserving the visual finish of the door over its lifetime.

Bespoke Manufacturing & Pricing

There is no "off-the-shelf" version of the Samson Spiral ISO 50. Every unit is a bespoke engineering project designed to perfectly fit your opening and accommodate your specific traffic flow, safety requirements, and aesthetic preferences.

Due to the highly customised nature of the manufacturing process, we do not list standard pricing. Please contact the Samson Doors team with your rough dimensions and site requirements for expert design guidance and a comprehensive, tailored quotation.

Application

Samson Spiral ISO 50 Applications

The Samson Spiral ISO 50 is a highly versatile industrial door designed for environments that cannot compromise on speed, security, or climate control. Because it combines the functions of two separate doors (a fast-action fabric door and a steel security roller shutter) into a single hybrid unit, it is perfectly suited for high-traffic openings on external building perimeters or critical internal divisions.

Ideal Environments & Sectors

Logistics & Distribution Hubs
In busy distribution centres, waiting for a traditional security door to open causes significant delays, while leaving it open wastes energy. The Spiral ISO 50 allows forklift and HGV traffic to move in and out of the building seamlessly without creating bottlenecks, while immediately securing and sealing the opening once the vehicle has passed.

Manufacturing & Production Facilities
Factories often have distinct internal zones (e.g., manufacturing vs. storage) that need to be kept separate due to noise, dust, or temperature differences. The acoustic insulation of the 50mm rigid panels helps contain machinery noise, while the high-speed operation ensures materials can be moved between zones without interrupting the production line.

Temperature-Controlled Storage
Cold storage facilities and food processing plants lose massive amounts of energy through slow-moving doors. The Spiral ISO 50 acts as a highly effective thermal barrier. Its rapid opening and closing cycles drastically reduce the time the doorway is exposed, protecting the internal climate, preventing temperature drops, and cutting refrigeration costs.

Automotive & Emergency Services
For fire stations, ambulance depots, and high-volume automotive workshops, immediate access is critical. The Spiral ISO 50 clears the opening in seconds, ensuring emergency vehicles or customer cars can enter and exit without delay, while the insulated panels keep the building warm and secure during downtime.

Secure Car Parks & Facilities
High-end residential developments, commercial car parks, and secure facilities require a door that opens quickly to prevent tailgating, but provides a solid physical barrier when closed. The rigid aluminium or steel construction of the ISO 50 offers excellent resistance against forced entry and severe wind loads, making it a reliable perimeter security solution.

Why Choose the Spiral ISO 50 for These Applications?

  • Eliminates the "Two-Door" System: Historically, facilities used a fast-action fabric door for daytime traffic and a steel roller shutter for overnight security. The Spiral ISO 50 replaces both, saving on installation costs, maintenance, and structural wall space.
  • Built for High Cycles: Environments operating 24/7 quickly wear out standard doors. The contactless spiral track means the panels do not rub together during operation, drastically reducing mechanical wear and keeping the door running reliably during intensive, high-frequency shifts.
  • Maintains Hygiene & Cleanliness: Because the door panels never touch during the rolling process, dirt, dust, and debris are not transferred between the internal and external faces of the curtain, making it easier to maintain in clean-room or food-handling environments.
Specification

Spiral ISO 50 Insulated High Speed Door

The Samson Spiral ISO 50 is a heavy-duty industrial door built for high-cycle applications. It relies on a patented spiral winding system rather than a traditional shaft, meaning the door panels never actually touch each other as they roll up. This contactless operation prevents surface wear. And because it lifts using a double push-pull chain mechanism instead of standard tension springs, you avoid the most common causes of fatigue and mechanical failure. It handles up to three million operating cycles with basic maintenance.

Construction and materials

Rigid 50mm panels form the core of the door. They are filled with CFC-free, high-density expanded polyurethane to provide strong thermal and acoustic insulation. You can specify the external skins in double-walled aluminium or pre-painted galvanised steel, and if visibility or airflow is necessary, the mantle accepts polycarbonate glazed windows or ventilated structural aluminium profiles. The entire assembly sits within self-supporting side frames. You do not need ceiling anchors for the winding saddle. It offers a compact footprint with reduced lateral encumbrance.

How it operates

A 400V three-phase brushless motor drives the system. The control logic uses an inverter and an absolute encoder, allowing the door to open rapidly at speeds up to 2.0 metres per second. Closing speeds are kept to around 0.5 metres per second with controlled deceleration. The mantle slides along high-density polyethylene guides without a central winding shaft.

Sizes and configurations

Standard manufacturing covers clear widths and heights up to 6,500 mm. For giant special projects, the width can extend to 8,000 mm, but the maximum height is then capped at 6,000 mm. Every unit is made to order. We issue exact CAD drawings and technical data sheets alongside your quotation based on the precise dimensions required.

Safety and practical considerations

Primary protection comes from a 22-beam infrared photocell light curtain integrated directly into the side guides. The rigid, interlocking panels provide serious resistance against forced entry. For exposed external locations, doors under five metres wide withstand wind loads up to Class 5. A manual override is available for power failures. Standard operating temperatures range from -20°C to +50°C. But if you are installing this in a cold storage facility with continuous negative temperatures, a dedicated heating system must be specified for the side guides and geared motor to prevent freezing. Control boards and motors are rated to IP54.

Standard specifications

  • Insulation: U-Value up to ~1.5 W/m²K; acoustic reduction up to 26dB.
  • Power requirements: Three-phase 400V + N + E (10A or 16A), 50/60 Hz.
  • Speed: Up to 2.0 m/s opening; ~0.5 m/s closing.
  • Safety barrier: 22-beam infrared photocell.
  • Drive mechanism: Brushless motor with double push-pull chain lift; no balancing springs.
  • Panel depth: 50 mm.
