Description

Samson SRD77 Premium – Remote Control Roller Garage Door

High‑spec remote control operation

The Samson SRD77 Premium is a high‑spec insulated aluminium roller garage door for homeowners who want more than basic remote control. It takes the proven SRD77 insulated curtain and Somfy RTS motor technology and combines them with the premium Somfy Rollixo wall‑mounted control panel, while remaining fully compliant with UK regulations on powered doors.

The door uses a double‑skinned, foam‑filled aluminium curtain with a bottom‑edge safety sensor so that, if the door meets an obstacle while closing, it stops and reverses to help prevent damage or injury. Two Somfy RTS remote control handsets are supplied as standard, giving smooth one‑touch operation from your car or driveway, and the Somfy Rollixo unit manages the radio signals and motor drive.

Premium Rollixo control panel features

At the heart of the SRD77 Premium is the Somfy Rollixo Premium control panel, which adds several enhanced features in one neat, wall‑mounted unit. A built‑in courtesy light comes on automatically when the door is operated and switches off after a short delay, providing useful illumination as you park or walk through the garage.

The control panel also incorporates an integral alarm that sounds if the door is tampered with or if the curtain is forcibly lifted when closed, offering an audible deterrent and extra reassurance. In addition, the system can be configured with automatic closing using a time delay (when set up with the appropriate safety devices), so the door can close itself after a set period if you prefer that style of operation.

You still enjoy all the convenience of remote control, but with added comfort and security built into the control system itself. As an extra bonus, a Somfy wireless wall‑mounted button switch is included, which you can position anywhere within radio range inside the garage or home to give you another easy control point without extra wiring.

UK‑manufactured insulated curtain and build quality

SRD77 Slat Profile

Samson SRD77 Premium roller doors are manufactured in the UK by leading producers for Samson Doors, drawing on many years of experience in insulated roller doors and shutters. The curtain uses 77 mm high, double‑skinned aluminium slats with a foam‑filled core for thermal and acoustic benefits, and the compact roll is supported on 300 mm endplates that house the Somfy tubular motor.

Doors are made to measure up to 5200 mm wide overall (including guides) and up to 2900 mm curtain height, with an additional 300 mm required above for the roll and endplates. Guides are 70 mm or 90 mm wide depending on the door width, with doors over 3000 mm wide supplied with 90 mm guides as standard, giving a clear opening 180 mm less than the ordering width.

Colours, hoods and finishes

The SRD77 Premium curtain is available in a wide palette of high‑quality powder‑coated colours, including three very popular core shades and an extended range of premium finishes. Guides can be supplied in white, black or anthracite to match or contrast with the curtain colour, helping the door blend with or highlight your garage frontage.

You can also specify an optional half or full hood in a matching colour to protect and neatly conceal the roll. This is particularly useful where the roll would otherwise be visible or more exposed to the weather, and gives a smarter, more complete appearance to both behind‑fit and inbetween‑fit installations.

Manual override and emergency access

An internal manual winding handle is provided as standard and is located alongside the motor drive so you can open and close the door from inside if there is a power failure. This ensures you can still use the garage even when the mains supply is interrupted.

If your garage does not have a separate pedestrian access door, Samson recommends adding an external low‑level manual release kit. This allows you to unlock a small cover plate and insert a winding handle from outside to operate the door manually during a power cut, helping to ensure you are never locked out.

Why choose the Samson SRD77 Premium?

For anyone wanting a top‑tier remote control roller garage door with enhanced control features, integrated lighting and added security, the Samson SRD77 Premium is a compelling choice. It builds on the robust, made‑to‑measure SRD77 insulated curtain with trusted Somfy electronics to deliver convenience, comfort and peace of mind for everyday use.

Application

Typical Applications for Remote Control Garage Doors

A remote control garage door like the Samson SRD77 Remote is ideal wherever convenience, regular vehicle access and everyday ease of use are important. With handsets and a wireless wall switch included, it suits a wide range of UK homes and lifestyles.

  • Regular vehicle access: Perfect if you drive in and out daily, allowing you to open and close the door without leaving your vehicle, especially useful in poor weather or at night.
  • Family and multi‑user households: Multiple users can share handsets, and the wireless wall switch provides a simple control point for anyone entering on foot.
  • Integral and attached garages: Remote control lets you operate the door as you approach the house, improving security and comfort when moving between car and home.
  • Garages used for storage or hobbies: Easy one‑touch operation makes frequent access for bikes, tools, garden equipment or home gyms quick and hassle‑free.
  • Accessibility and ease of use: Remote operation reduces the need to handle a manual door, which can be a major benefit for those who prefer lighter, push‑button control.

No Hood, Half Hood or Full Hood?

This door can be supplied with no hood, a half hood or a full hood over the curtain roll, depending on how and where you are installing it and how neat you want the finished appearance to be.

  • No hood: Supplied as standard without a curtain roll hood cover. This is usually fine when you are installing fully behind the opening, as the roll is only visible from inside when the door is open. If you are relaxed about seeing the roll internally, no hood is a simple, cost‑effective option.
  • Half hood: Generally chosen to provide a front fascia section. It is particularly useful when you do not have enough headroom to fully hide the roll, or when installing underneath the garage lintel and you want to cloak the exposed front of the roll from outside view.
  • Full hood: Encloses the curtain roll more completely, giving a very neat, tidy finish and helping to improve weather protection and draught reduction overall. A full hood is recommended when the door is fitted completely to the outside face of the garage, or whenever the entire roll would otherwise be visible and exposed.

Choosing the right hood option depends on your installation position, available headroom and how important a fully concealed roll and enhanced weather protection are for your garage.

External Key Switch
A surface wall mounted steel housing key switch for operating the door with a key if required rather than having the remote handset with you.

External Low Level Emergency Manual Override
A winding linkage to connect to the inside override system and provide a means of manually operating the door from the outside in a power failure.

Installation

Installation Guidance – Samson SRD77 Premium Remote (Somfy Rollixo Premium)

The Samson SRD77 Premium Remote with Somfy Rollixo Premium control is designed for straightforward installation, combining a factory‑assembled roller door with a remote control system that uses handsets and a wireless internal wall switch. The Rollixo Premium control panel also incorporates an integral courtesy light, alarm function and configurable timer, while remaining simple to set up. The door can be fitted behind, inbetween or (with suitable hooding and sealing) in front of the structural opening.

Pre‑installation checks

  • Confirm the opening is reasonably square and plumb, with a solid fixing surface (brick, block, steel or suitable timber).
  • Check that you have the correct motor side handing as specified on your order.
  • Ensure there is sufficient headroom for the 300 mm roll and endplates, and adequate side room for the guides (70 mm or 90 mm each side, depending on door width).
  • Arrange a suitable 230–240 V single‑phase power supply to the control position, installed by a competent person in line with current UK regulations.

Positioning guides and roll

  1. Marking out
Measure the structural opening and compare with the ordering sizes. Mark the finished door position and the centreline of the opening on the inside face, then mark the guide positions so they will be plumb and parallel.
  2. Fixing the side guides
Offer up each aluminium guide, check with a spirit level that it is perfectly vertical, then fix through the pre‑drilled holes using appropriate fixings for the wall type. Ensure the guides remain straight and parallel from top to bottom.
  3. Setting the roll and endplates
Lift the pre‑assembled roll and endplate unit into position above the opening, locating the endplates on top of the guides. Align so the curtain runs centrally in the guides, then fix the endplates securely back to the wall or supporting structure, keeping them level and ensuring the roll has adequate clearance.

Mounting the Somfy Rollixo Premium control unit

  1. Control position
Choose an internal wall position close to the motor side, within reach of the motor cable and mains supply. The control panel should be mounted at a convenient height, away from damp or splash zones, with space around it for the antenna and easy access to the buttons and indicators.
  2. Fixing the control box
Fix the Rollixo Premium unit to the wall using suitable fixings. Make sure it is level and secure, and that the front cover can be opened easily for commissioning and future maintenance.

Electrical connection and remote setup

  1. Power supply
Bring the dedicated 230–240 V supply into the Rollixo Premium control, connecting via the terminal block as shown in the wiring diagram. Fit a local isolator so the system can be safely switched off for servicing.
  2. Wiring the motor and safety edge
Connect the tube motor leads to the motor terminals in the control unit. Wire the optical safety edge from the bottom seal into the designated safety inputs, following the instructions carefully to ensure correct obstacle detection.
  3. Pairing the handsets
Use the programming steps in the Rollixo Premium manual to pair each RTS handset to the control. Test each handset to confirm it operates the door correctly.
  4. Pairing the wireless wall switch
Pair the wireless internal wall switch with the control unit as an additional remote. Once paired, mount it on an internal wall within radio range at a convenient height for everyday use.

Setting limits, timer and testing safety

  1. Limit setting
Set the upper and lower travel limits according to the motor/Rollixo procedure. The lower limit should bring the curtain firmly down to the floor without excessive pressure; the upper limit should stop before the curtain overwinds or fouls the motor fixings.
  2. Timer and courtesy light
Configure the auto‑close timer (if you intend to use this feature) in line with the instructions and with all required safety devices active. Check that the built‑in courtesy light comes on when the door is operated and switches off automatically after the preset time.
  3. Alarm function
Activate and test the integrated alarm according to the control panel instructions, confirming that an alarm is triggered if the door is tampered with or forcibly lifted when closed.
  4. Operational tests
Run several full open/close cycles using both a handset and the wireless wall switch. Check that the door travels smoothly, stays central in the guides and stops at the correct limits.
  5. Safety edge test
With the door closing, introduce a suitable test object beneath the bottom seal to confirm that the optical safety edge detects the obstruction and causes the door to stop and reverse.
  6. Manual override test
Engage the internal manual winding system and confirm that the door can be opened and closed smoothly by hand. Disengage the override and re‑test powered operation.

Hoods, sealing and finishing

  1. Fitting half or full hood (if specified)
Position the aluminium hood sections over the roll and fix to the endplates and any support brackets as directed in the supplied instructions. Make sure the hood is secure and does not interfere with the moving curtain or guides.
  2. Weather sealing
Seal any gaps between guides, endplates and the wall with an appropriate external‑grade sealant. Check the floor line and consider fitting a threshold seal if there are uneven areas or small gaps at the bottom.
  3. Final checks
Inspect all fixings, cable runs and covers, remove any protective films, and clean the curtain, guides and hood to leave a neat, finished installation.

User handover and safety notes

  • Demonstrate operation using the remote handsets and the wireless wall switch, showing how to open, close and stop the door.
  • Explain the functions of the courtesy light, alarm and (if enabled) auto‑close timer, and how these features fit into safe daily operation.
  • Show the user how the optical safety edge works and the importance of keeping the doorway clear while the door is moving.
  • Demonstrate the internal manual override and, if fitted, any external low‑level manual release, and confirm the location of the mains isolator.
  • Advise against boxing in the guides, hood, motor area or control unit so that inspection and maintenance remain accessible.
  • Remind the user that any future electrical work must be carried out by a suitably qualified person.

Installed and commissioned correctly, the Samson SRD77 Premium with Somfy Rollixo Premium control provides a smart, modern remote control garage door system with integrated lighting, alarm capability and optional timed closing, all built around a robust, insulated roller curtain.

Measure

Measuring and Ordering Guidance

Ordering sizes for this Samson roller garage door are based on the Over Guide Width (OGW) and Guide Height (GH) only – they do not include the endplates or the curtain roll (see 3D diagram below for reference).

  • Guides are 75 mm wide on each side for doors up to 3000 mm wide.
  • For doors over 3000 mm wide, the guides are 90 mm wide on each side.

For a standard behind‑fit installation:

  • Clear Opening Width
Up to 3000 mm wide: Clear Opening Width = Ordering Width − 150 mm
Over 3000 mm and up to 5200 mm: Clear Opening Width = Ordering Width − 180 mm
  • Clear Opening Height
Clear Opening Height = Guide Height − 50 mm (allowing for the bottom slat sitting down into the guides).
The 300 mm endplates, which contain the motor and barrel, are added on top of the Guide Height to give the Overall Height required.

For inbetween‑fit (between reveal) installations:

Please contact us for specific sizing advice. You will need a half hood or full hood when fitting inbetween and underneath the lintel, and you should allow suitable fitting tolerances within your ordering dimensions.
