Description

Samson SRD77 Total Smart – Somfy TaHoma Switch Roller Garage Door

Fully smart, insulated electric roller door

The Samson SRD77 Total Smart (SmartRoll) is an insulated aluminium roller garage door for homeowners who want truly complete smart control as part of a connected home. It is a double‑skinned, foam‑filled electric roller door that remains fully compliant with UK regulations for remote‑operated doors, with a bottom‑edge safety sensor on the curtain and additional infra‑red safety beams that protect the opening when the door is closing, even when controlled from anywhere in the world via smart devices.

Somfy Rollixo Premium remote control as standard

Every SRD77 Total Smart door is supplied with two Somfy Keygo remote handsets using Somfy io protocol, giving smooth, secure open/close control and status feedback. The Somfy Rollixo Premium wall‑mounted control panel manages the communication between the motor, io handsets and other Somfy io devices, providing a robust, proven remote control platform.

The Rollixo Premium panel also adds:

  • A built‑in alarm system that triggers if the door is attacked or the curtain is forcibly lifted when closed.
  • A programmable courtesy light that comes on automatically when the door operates and switches off after a timed delay.
  • Integrated button controls on the panel for direct local operation.

A Somfy wireless, wall‑mounted button switch is also included, which can be positioned anywhere within radio range inside the garage or home to give you an extra, cable‑free control point.

Total smart home control with Somfy TaHoma Switch

What sets the SRD77 Total Smart apart is the inclusion of the Somfy TaHoma Switch kit as standard. TaHoma Switch is Somfy’s flagship smart home hub, allowing you to control your garage door via the Somfy app on your smartphone or tablet and to build powerful, automated routines that involve multiple devices around your home.

With TaHoma Switch you can:

  • Open, close and check the status of your SRD77 Total Smart door from virtually anywhere.
  • Connect multiple smartphones so family members can each have secure access to the garage.
  • Create scenarios (such as “Arrive Home” or “Goodnight”) where the garage door, lights, blinds and other devices all act together at the touch of a button or according to a schedule.

TaHoma Switch supports io‑homecontrol, RTS and Zigbee 3.0, and can work with more than 280 equipment ranges and over 20 major home brands, covering Somfy products and many partner devices such as shades, shutters, doors, gates, windows, heating, lighting, cameras and alarm systems. This makes the SRD77 Total Smart an ideal choice if you want your garage door fully integrated into one of the most complete and scalable smart home ecosystems available.

Smart scenes, voice control and partner devices

Using the TaHoma app, you can create and customise scenes, schedules and advanced routines that fit your daily life. For example, you might have the garage door open, driveway lights switch on and hallway lights activate together when you arrive home, or close the garage and switch off outdoor lighting automatically at night.

TaHoma Switch also works with popular voice assistants, so you can add voice control via platforms such as Alexa or Google (subject to the integrations you choose). Because TaHoma can connect to a wide range of devices – including blinds, awnings, electric gates and Philips Hue lighting – your SRD77 Total Smart door becomes part of a much bigger, unified control experience rather than a stand‑alone device.

UK manufactured insulated curtain and sizing

Samson SRD77 Total Smart insulated roller doors are manufactured in the UK by SWS/AlluGuard for Samson Doors, using many years of development and production experience. The curtain is constructed from 77 mm high, double‑skinned aluminium slats with a foam‑filled core, giving a strong, insulated barrier that rolls compactly onto a 300 mm barrel.

Somfy remote handset

Doors are made to measure up to a maximum overall width of 5200 mm (including the side guides) and a maximum curtain height of 2900 mm, with an additional 300 mm required above for the roll and endplates. Side guides are 70 mm or 90 mm wide depending on door width; doors over 3000 mm wide always use 90 mm guides as standard, so the clear opening width is 180 mm less than the ordering width.

Colours, hoods and finishes

The SRD77 Total Smart curtain is available in 18 premium, high‑quality powder‑coated colours, allowing you to match or contrast with your property’s windows, doors and other external features. You can choose optional half or full hood covers in a matching colour to protect and conceal the roll, which is particularly useful for inbetween‑fit installations or where the roll would otherwise be exposed to the weather.

If you prefer a contrasting hood or guide colour to create a more distinctive look or tie in with other external elements, Samson Doors can provide details and pricing so you can tailor the door’s appearance to your home.

Manual override and emergency access

The SRD77 Total Smart includes an internal manual winding handle system, located alongside the electric motor, so you can operate the door from inside in the event of a power failure. This ensures you retain physical access to the garage even if the mains power or network connection is lost.

If your garage does not have a separate pedestrian access door, it is strongly recommended that you add the optional external low‑level emergency manual release. This allows you to unlock a cover plate on the outside of the garage and insert a winding handle to operate the internal manual override, ensuring you are never locked out during a power cut.

Why choose the Samson SRD77 Total Smart?

The Samson SRD77 Total Smart is the top‑level SRD77 model for customers who want complete, joined‑up smart home control. With Somfy Rollixo Premium io remote control, TaHoma Switch smart hub, safety edge and beam protection, and UK‑made insulated curtain construction, it delivers a fully smart, secure and convenient roller garage door that can grow with your wider connected home.

Application

No Hood, Half Hood or Full Hood?

This door is supplied as standard with no hood cover and if you are installing fully behind your opening then it isn’t really necessary but you will see the curtain roll from the inside when rolled up and fully open.
The Half and Full hood will both provide a fascia for when you either don’t have sufficient headroom to fully hide the roll or when installing underneath the garage lintel when the whole curtain roll would be exposed from outside.
A full hood will assist in better weather protection and draughts overall.

External Key Switch
A surface wall mounted steel housing key switch for operating the door with a key if required rather than having the remote handset with you.

External Low Level Emergency Manual Override
A winding linkage to connect to the inside override system and provide a means of manually operating the door from the outside in a power failure.

Digital Wall Mounted Keypad
Operate your roller garage door using a coded keypad for external access with security.

Installation

Installation Guidance – Samson SRD77 Total Smart (Somfy Rollixo Premium + TaHoma Switch)

The Samson SRD77 Total Smart combines a factory‑assembled insulated roller door with Somfy Rollixo Premium io controls and the Somfy TaHoma Switch smart hub. Installation is straightforward for a competent installer, with additional steps to commission the smart and app‑based functions. The door can be fitted behind, inbetween or (with suitable hooding and sealing) in front of the opening.

Pre‑installation checks

  • Confirm the opening is reasonably square and plumb, with a solid fixing surface (brick, block, steel or suitable timber).
  • Check that the ordered sizes, guide type and motor side handing match the site conditions.
  • Ensure sufficient headroom is available: Guide Height plus 300 mm for the roll and endplates, plus any hood depth if specified.
  • Confirm there is adequate side room for the guides (70 mm or 90 mm per side, depending on width).
  • Arrange a 230–240 V single‑phase power supply to the Rollixo Premium control position, installed by a qualified electrician in line with current UK regulations.
  • Ensure a suitable mains socket or power point is available near the intended TaHoma Switch location (typically near the router/Wi‑Fi hub).

Fitting the guides and curtain roll

  1. Marking out
Measure the structural opening and compare with the ordering sizes. Mark the finished door line and centreline on the inside face, then mark the side guide positions so they will be plumb and parallel.
  2. Fixing the side guides
Position each aluminium guide, check with a spirit level that it is vertical, and fix through the pre‑drilled holes using suitable fixings for the substrate. Tighten evenly so the guides remain straight from top to bottom.
  3. Setting the roll and endplates
Lift the pre‑assembled barrel and endplate unit above the opening, resting the endplates on top of the guides. Align so the curtain runs centrally in the guides, then fix the endplates securely back to the wall or other support, ensuring they are level and that the roll has free clearance.

Mounting the Rollixo Premium control panel

  1. Choosing a position
Select an internal wall location close to the motor side and within reach of the motor cable and mains supply. Mount the control at a comfortable height, away from damp areas, with space for the antenna and access to the front buttons, indicators, light and alarm controls.
  2. Fixing the panel
Secure the Rollixo Premium unit to the wall using appropriate fixings. Make sure it is level and that the front cover can be opened easily for wiring, programming and future maintenance.

Wiring and basic control setup

  1. Power connection
Bring the 230–240 V supply into the Rollixo Premium and connect as per the Somfy wiring diagram. Fit a local isolator so the system can be safely switched off for servicing.
  2. Motor and safety devices
Connect the io tube motor leads to the motor terminals. Wire the optical safety edge in the bottom seal and the infra‑red safety beams to the specified safety inputs. Follow Somfy instructions carefully to ensure correct obstacle detection and compliance.
  3. Pairing remote handsets
Use the programming sequence on the Rollixo Premium to register the Somfy io handsets. Test each handset to confirm open, close and stop functions operate correctly.
  4. Pairing the wireless wall switch
Register the Somfy wireless wall‑mounted switch as an additional control. Once paired, mount it within radio range at a convenient height inside the garage or home.

Setting travel limits, light and alarm

  1. Upper and lower limits
Set the open and closed positions following the Rollixo/motor instructions. The lower limit should bring the curtain down firmly onto the floor without excessive pressure; the upper limit should stop before the curtain overwinds or contacts any fixings.
  2. Courtesy light
Configure the built‑in courtesy light, setting the desired run‑on time after operation. Check that the light comes on when the door moves and switches off after the chosen delay.
  3. Alarm function
Activate and test the integrated alarm so it sounds if the door is tampered with or the curtain is lifted while closed. Adjust settings as required within the recommended range.
  4. Safety tests
Run several full open/close cycles using the handsets and wall switch. Test the optical safety edge by introducing a suitable object beneath the bottom seal during closure, and test the infra‑red beams by breaking the beam path while the door is closing. Confirm the door stops and/or reverses as specified.
  5. Manual override check
Engage the internal manual winding system and verify that the door can be opened and closed smoothly by hand. Disengage and re‑test powered operation.

Setting up Somfy TaHoma Switch

  1. Positioning TaHoma
Place the TaHoma Switch indoors, typically near your internet router and within good Wi‑Fi coverage. Plug in the power supply and connect to your network as directed in the TaHoma instructions (Wi‑Fi or Ethernet, depending on model and setup).
  2. App installation
Download the Somfy TaHoma app from your device’s app store and create or log into your Somfy account. Follow the on‑screen steps to add the TaHoma Switch hub to your account.
  3. Adding the SRD77 Total Smart door
Within the TaHoma app, start the device‑add process for a Somfy io garage door/roller shutter. Put the Rollixo Premium into pairing mode as instructed, then let TaHoma discover and add the SRD77 door. Name the door (e.g. “Garage Door”) so it is easy to identify.
  4. Configuring users and phones
Add additional user accounts or share access so multiple family smartphones can control the door. Ensure each user understands how to operate the door safely from the app.
  5. Creating scenes and schedules
Use the TaHoma app to create scenes (e.g. “Arrive Home”, “Goodnight”) and scheduled events where the garage door can open or close at set times or in conjunction with other devices such as lights or gates. Always consider safety when enabling automatic closing and use beams and safety edges as specified.
  6. Integrating partner devices
If desired, connect compatible devices such as Philips Hue lighting, Somfy blinds, awnings or gates to TaHoma and include the garage door in wider smart routines for a fully integrated experience.

Hoods, sealing and finishing

  1. Fitting half or full hood (if specified)
Position the hood sections over the roll and fix them to the endplates and any support brackets as shown in the instructions. Ensure the hood is secure and does not interfere with the moving curtain or guides.
  2. Weather sealing
Seal joints between guides, endplates and the wall with an appropriate external‑grade sealant. Check the floor line and consider a threshold seal if there are gaps or uneven areas.
  3. Final inspection
Check all fixings, cable runs and covers, remove any protective films and clean the curtain, guides and hood to leave a neat finished installation.

User handover and safety notes

  • Demonstrate operation using the io handsets, wireless wall switch and the TaHoma app.
  • Explain the function of the safety edge and beams and stress the need to keep the doorway clear while the door is moving.
  • Show how the courtesy light and alarm behave in normal use.
  • Demonstrate the internal manual override and, if fitted, any external low‑level manual release, and point out the mains isolator.
  • Advise against boxing in guides, hood, motor or control units so that inspection and maintenance remain accessible.
  • Remind the user that any changes to wiring, safety devices or smart control setup should be carried out by a suitably qualified person.

When installed and commissioned correctly, the Samson SRD77 Total Smart with Somfy Rollixo Premium and TaHoma Switch delivers a fully featured, safe and highly connected smart roller garage door, integrated into the wider smart home system.

Measure

Measuring and Ordering Guidance – Samson SRD77 Total Smart

Ordering sizes for the Samson SRD77 Total Smart are based on the Over Guide Width (OGW) and Guide Height (GH). OGW is the overall width including both side guides. GH is the vertical height of the guides only and does not include the 300 mm required above for the roll and endplates.

Guide sizes and ordering width

  • Doors up to 3000 mm wide use 75 mm guides on each side as standard.
  • Doors over 3000 mm and up to 5200 mm wide use 90 mm guides on each side as standard.

To calculate your Over Guide Width (ordering width):

  • For doors up to 3000 mm wide: OGW = structural opening width + 150 mm (2 × 75 mm).
  • For doors over 3000 mm wide: OGW = structural opening width + 180 mm (2 × 90 mm).

Clear Opening Width will therefore be:

  • Ordering width − 150 mm for doors up to 3000 mm wide.
  • Ordering width − 180 mm for doors over 3000 mm wide.

Guide height, overall height and clear opening height

  • The Guide Height (GH) is the ordering height and equals the vertical length of the side guides.
  • The Overall Height required on site = Guide Height + 300 mm (to allow for the roll and endplates above the opening).

The approximate Clear Opening Height is:

  • Guide Height − about 50 mm, allowing for the bottom slat to sit down into the guides when the door is fully open.

Behind‑fit installation

For a standard behind‑fit installation (door and guides fixed to the inside face of the opening):

  • Measure the structural opening width and height.
  • Use the formulas above to calculate the Over Guide Width (OGW) from the opening width.
  • Use the desired clear opening height as your Guide Height, then check you have at least GH + 300 mm of headroom inside the garage.

Inbetween‑fit installation

For inbetween‑fit (between reveal) installations:

  • Use the reveal width as your starting point and allow a tolerance (typically a few millimetres each side) so the guides will fit between the reveals without forcing.
  • A half hood or full hood is usually recommended to cloak the roll and provide weather protection when fitting between the opening or under the lintel.
  • Check that the internal reveal height can accommodate the Guide Height plus the 300 mm required above for the roll and endplates.

Allowing for fitting tolerances

When ordering for between‑fit installations, do not use the exact tight brick‑to‑brick width as your OGW. Always allow a small tolerance (typically 5–10 mm less than the measured reveal width overall) to account for walls that are not perfectly plumb or parallel and to give room for shimming and sealing. This makes installation easier and helps ensure the guides sit true without being forced into the opening.

If you are unsure about how to measure for a specific opening, particularly for inbetween‑fit or low‑headroom situations, please contact Samson Doors with your opening dimensions so they can confirm the correct ordering sizes before you place your order.
