Project overview
The client wanted to modernise the tired front elevation of their unit and address issues with heat loss, security and restricted internal headroom.
Samson Doors specified and installed a Hörmann SPU F42 industrial sectional door, a double-skinned steel door system designed for demanding commercial environments and frequent daily use.
Door specification and aesthetics
The new door measures approximately 6.3 m wide by just over 5 m high and was supplied in a dark grey finish to match the existing cladding and create a clean, contemporary façade.
A full row of double-glazed vision panels was incorporated to provide natural light into the workshop and maintain external visibility for vehicle and pedestrian movements.
Insulation, security and performance
The SPU F42 uses 42 mm thick, PU-foamed steel panels which offer robust construction and very good thermal insulation, helping to reduce heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer.
High quality perimeter sealing and the double-skinned panel design significantly minimise energy loss through the door opening, supporting a more stable internal working temperature and helping to lower heating and cooling costs over time.
When installed behind a steel framework and guide channels, these heavy-duty sections greatly increase resistance to forced entry, making SPU F42 doors a strong option where improved security is a priority.
Technical solution and operation
Due to the roof configuration inside the unit, the internal mechanics required a bespoke approach.
Samson Doors designed a high lift, pitched track arrangement to follow the roof line, maximising clear opening height for vehicles while keeping the door clear of internal services and minimising encroachment into valuable ceiling space.
Given the size and weight of the door, an electric operator was specified, with simple wall mounted push-button controls providing reliable, lo -effort operation for staff throughout the working day.
