Description

Carteck XL Centre Ribbed Insulated Sectional Garage Door

The Carteck XL centre ribbed insulated sectional garage door is designed for very wide garage openings and combines robust construction, high insulation values and smooth automatic operation in one carefully engineered product.

Aesthetics of the Centre Ribbed design

The centre ribbed layout gives the door a clean, ordered appearance that works well on both modern and more traditional properties. The horizontal ribs introduce a regular rhythm across the surface so the wide opening does not look plain or industrial. When paired with the right colour or timber effect, the centre ribs can either blend quietly with the façade or create a stronger design feature that frames the garage as part of the overall frontage. Simple, clean and relevant to todays UK house styles.

Built for extra wide openings

At XL sizes the door and hardware are carefully uprated to keep the structure stable and dependable over long spans.

  • Rear mounted torsion spring system sized specifically for XL door weights.
  • Heavy duty roller brackets and reinforcing profiles built into the panel system.
  • Galvanised steel components designed to cope with increased operating loads.
  • Ball bearing rollers running in steel guides for smooth and quiet travel across the full width.

The result is a large insulated steel sectional door that feels solid in use, resists flexing and rattling, and moves with a controlled and consistent action.

Stable and controlled movement

The lifting gear keeps the door balanced throughout its travel which protects the structure and helps the motor run efficiently.

  • Carefully balanced torsion springs reduce strain on the operator and fittings.
  • Even lifting support across the span helps maintain panel alignment and joint integrity.
  • Safety monitoring stops and reverses the door when it encounters an obstruction.

You simply press a button and the door moves in a measured and predictable way, even at the larger end of the XL range.

Insulation for large openings

On a wide opening the difference between an insulated and a single skin door is significant. Carteck XL construction focuses on thermal performance and draught reduction across the whole width.

  • Forty millimetre thick double skinned steel panels filled with foam insulation.
  • Seals at the sides, along the top and between the sections to reduce draughts and cold spots.
  • EPDM bottom seal that beds onto the floor and compensates for small irregularities.

This is particularly useful where the garage is attached to the house, used as a workshop or forms part of a wider storage and hobby space.

Automation specified for XL doors

A door of this scale needs an appropriate drive system. XL models are paired with operators chosen for the size and weight involved.

  • High output rail drive operator matched to XL door dimensions and mass.
  • Built in safety sensing that stops and reverses when resistance is detected.
  • Compatible with remote transmitters, internal wall controls and secure keypads where specified.

Daily operation becomes a simple press of a button while the lifting system deals with the weight and travel of the door.

Large format door with a smart residential look

Although the door is engineered for substantial openings, it still presents as a high quality residential product rather than an industrial shutter. The centre ribbed layout divides the width into regular bands while the reinforcing structure stays hidden behind the external face.

  • Centre ribbed design that keeps the wide opening visually balanced and contemporary.
  • Choice of surface textures, colours and timber look finishes to suit the property style.
  • Optional colour matched frame and head section to create a neat and coordinated installation.

If your opening is larger than the usual sectional sizes and you want strength, insulation and a clean modern appearance, the Carteck XL centre ribbed insulated sectional door is designed to meet that requirement.

Application

The Carteck XL centre ribbed insulated sectional garage door is ideal wherever a single, wide span door is required and a smart residential look is still important.

  • Large single garages where a standard width door is not sufficient.
  • Wide double garages that benefit from one uninterrupted opening.
  • Multi vehicle garages and collector car garages requiring maximum clear width.
  • Garages attached to the house that need higher insulation levels across a large opening.
  • Projects where a neat, modern aesthetic is required on extra‑wide automated doors.

Samson Doors can advise on suitability, sizing and layout for specific projects, including replacements and new‑build installations.

Installation Guidance – Carteck XL Centre Ribbed Insulated Sectional Garage Door

Carteck XL doors are supplied with rear mounted torsion spring gear and a matched electric rail drive operator. The guidance below highlights the main points for survey and fitting, supporting the correct preparation of the opening.

General site preparation and clearances

Installation should always be carried out by an experienced professional familiar with large sectional garage doors. Before ordering, all key dimensions including clear width, clear height, headroom and side clearance must be measured accurately. The walls, lintel and ceiling or roof structure must be sound, reasonably flat and capable of taking the substantial fixing and operating loads. Additionally, the floor threshold should be as level as possible so the rubber bottom seal makes good contact. Because the torsion spring shaft is positioned internally above the opening, a defined headroom clearance is required for the shaft, cable drums and the start of the horizontal track runs. Sufficient sideroom is also needed on each side to accommodate the vertical frame legs, tracks and mounting brackets.

Frame, track and torsion spring assembly

The vertical frame legs are fixed either behind or between the reveals depending on the chosen mounting position and the building structure. Horizontal tracks are then aligned with these vertical guides and secured to the ceiling or roof structure using suitable hangers. It is essential that all tracks are set level, parallel and at the correct spacing to allow free travel without binding. The rear mounted torsion spring system features a shaft fixed on strong brackets anchored to the internal lintel structure. Springs are specifically selected and adjusted to balance the XL door size and weight, with lift cables running from the bottom corner brackets to the drums on the shaft to ensure even lifting across the wide span. Spring adjustment is a safety critical task that must only be carried out with the correct tools by trained personnel.

Electric operator setup and commissioning

The XL door comes with a compatible electric rail drive operator designed to handle the increased door mass. The operator head is usually fixed to the ceiling, with the drive rail running centrally above the door and connecting to the top door section via a carriage arm. This requires a standard 13 amp single phase power supply installed to current electrical standards. Before connecting the motor, the installer will check the door on manual operation to confirm smooth, balanced movement and to ensure all panel joints, hinges and rollers are correctly seated in the guides. Once powered, several setup cycles are run to fine tune the open and close limits. Safety functions, including force monitoring and the auto reverse mechanism, are rigorously tested at this stage using a suitable obstruction to confirm correct and safe operation.

Ongoing maintenance and care

Because of the sheer size and weight of the Carteck XL sectional door, regular professional servicing is strongly recommended to maintain safe operation and long term reliability. Structural fixings and track supports should be inspected periodically for tightness and any visible damage. Moving parts such as rollers and hinges will require occasional lubrication with an appropriate light oil or manufacturer approved product. Keeping the door panels and weather seals clean from dirt and debris will also preserve the finish and ensure smooth running. Any major adjustments or work on the torsion springs and other high load components must always be carried out by qualified service engineers.

Warranty

Carteck insulated sectional garage doors supplied by Samson Doors are backed by Teckentrup warranty cover on key components, provided the door is installed correctly and used within the specified operating limits for normal domestic use.

Warranty cover applies only to qualifying Carteck sectional doors purchased in the United Kingdom through the authorised distribution route and operated within the stated duty cycles. A completed warranty document and dated sales invoice are required as proof of cover. Costs associated with removal, re installation, transport and postage are not included. For the full current warranty conditions and maintenance requirements, please refer to Teckentrup documentation or contact Samson Doors for advice before ordering.

Measure

*If fitting between the opening, please deduct 180mm from the opening width to determine the ordering width.
Deduct 120mm for manual doors and 140mm for electric operation (unless the additional fitting bracket is purchased then 120mm applies) from the opening height to determine the ordering height.
