Samson SRD77 Premium Smart – Remote & Smartphone Control Roller Garage Door
High‑spec remote and smart control
The Samson SRD77 Premium Smart is an insulated aluminium roller garage door for homeowners who want high‑spec remote control and full smart control in one package. It uses a double‑skinned, foam‑filled curtain and is fully compliant with UK regulations for remote‑operated doors, with a bottom‑edge safety sensor on the curtain that stops and reverses the door if it meets an obstacle while closing.
Premium Somfy Rollixo remote control
Every SRD77 Premium Smart door is supplied with two Somfy Keygo remote handsets using RTS or io technology (depending on configuration), giving smooth one‑touch open/close control from your car or driveway. At the heart of the system is the Somfy Rollixo wall‑mounted control panel, which manages the communication between the motor, remotes and other RTS/io devices you may add in future.
The Rollixo control panel offers several enhanced features in a single unit:
- Integrated alarm system that triggers if the door is attacked or the curtain is forcibly lifted when closed.
- Built‑in courtesy light that switches on automatically when the door operates and turns off after a programmable delay, providing useful light as you park or walk through the garage.
- Direct button controls on the panel for local operation at the control position.
You also receive a Somfy wireless, wall‑mounted button switch, which can be placed anywhere within radio range inside your garage or home to give you an additional, cable‑free control point.
Smart control with Somfy Connectivity kit
The SRD77 Premium Smart includes the Somfy Connectivity kit as standard, enabling control via Somfy’s free smartphone app. Once configured, you can open, close and check the status of your garage door from almost anywhere you have internet access, adding reassurance and convenience whether you are at home or away.
Multiple smartphones can be connected to the same door, so different family members can have their own secure access. The Connectivity kit also allows you to bring other RTS or io‑enabled Somfy products into the same app – such as blinds, awnings, electric gates and lighting – so you can manage several devices from a single interface as part of your smart home setup.
UK‑manufactured insulated curtain and sizing
Samson SRD77 Premium Smart roller doors are manufactured in the UK by SWS/AlluGuard for Samson Doors, using many years of experience in insulated roller doors and shutters. The curtain is formed from 77 mm high, double‑skinned aluminium slats with a foam‑filled core, providing insulation, a robust feel and smooth rolling operation. The compact roll is supported on 300 mm endplates which also house the electric tube motor.
Doors are made to measure up to a maximum overall width of 5200 mm (including the side guides) and a maximum curtain height of 2900 mm, with an additional 300 mm required above for the roll and endplates. Side channel guides are 70 mm or 90 mm wide depending on the door width; doors over 3000 mm wide are supplied with 90 mm guides as standard, giving a clear opening width 180 mm less than the ordering width.
Colours, hoods and finishes
The SRD77 Premium Smart curtain is available in 18 premium, high‑quality powder‑coated colours so you can match or complement your property’s windows, doors and other external features. Optional half or full hood covers in a matching colour can be specified to protect and conceal the roll, which is particularly useful for inbetween‑fit installations or where the roll would otherwise be exposed.
If you prefer a contrasting hood or guide colour to create a design feature or tie in with other elements of your home, Samson Doors can provide details and pricing so you can tailor the look of the door to your preferences.
Manual override and emergency access
An internal manual winding handle system is fitted as standard, located alongside the electric motor, so you can open and close the door from inside in the event of a power failure. This ensures you can still use your garage when the mains power is off.
If your garage does not have a separate pedestrian access door, it is strongly recommended that you add the optional external low‑level emergency manual release. This allows you to operate the internal manual override from outside by unlocking a small cover plate and inserting the winding handle, ensuring you are never locked out during a power cut.
Why choose the Samson SRD77 Premium Smart?
For anyone wanting a feature‑rich insulated roller garage door that combines premium Somfy Rollixo control, alarm and courtesy light with full smartphone integration, the Samson SRD77 Premium Smart is a strong, future‑ready choice. It delivers UK‑made build quality, multiple control options and a wide range of sizes and finishes to suit modern homes.
Typical Applications – Samson SRD77 Smart Premium Remote
The Samson SRD77 Smart Remote is ideal wherever you want the convenience of remote and smartphone control, combined with an insulated, space‑saving roller door. It suits modern homes where the garage is used for far more than just parking a car.
- Garages with daily vehicle access, where opening the door from your car or via a phone app saves time and avoids getting out in bad weather.
- Integral or attached garages, allowing you to open the door as you approach and drive straight in, then close it behind you with a handset or smartphone.
- Homes already using smart tech (lighting, blinds, gates) where adding the garage door to the same app and voice control platform makes everyday life easier.
- Garages used as multi‑purpose spaces – for storage, hobbies, gyms or workshops – where quick, hands‑free access via app or remote is a real benefit.
- Properties where several family members need access, using a combination of handsets, a wireless wall switch and app‑based control on individual phones.
No Hood, Half Hood or Full Hood?
This roller garage door is supplied as standard without a hood cover. If you are installing the door fully behind the opening, a hood is not strictly necessary, but you will see the curtain roll from inside the garage when the door is fully open.
Both the half hood and full hood options provide an aluminium fascia where you do not have enough headroom to completely hide the roll, or when you are installing underneath the garage lintel and the entire roll would otherwise be visible from outside. The fascia helps to cloak the roll, giving a neater finish and added protection.
A full hood cover encloses the roll more completely, which can improve weather protection and help reduce draughts inside the garage. It is particularly recommended where the door is more exposed to the elements or where you want the cleanest, most finished appearance.

External Key Switch
A surface wall mounted steel housing key switch for operating the door with a key if required rather than having the remote handset with you.
External Low Level Emergency Manual Override
A winding linkage to connect to the inside override system and provide a means of manually operating the door from the outside in a power failure.
Digital Wall Mounted Keypad
Operate your roller garage door using a coded keypad for external access with security.

Installation Guidance – Samson SRD77 Premium Smart (Somfy Rollixo Premium)
The Samson SRD77 Premium Smart combines a factory‑assembled insulated roller door with Somfy Rollixo Premium remote and smart controls. Installation is straightforward for a competent installer and the door can be fitted behind, inbetween or (with suitable hooding and sealing) in front of the opening, depending on space, reveal depth and the finish required.
Pre‑installation checks
- Confirm the structural opening is reasonably square and plumb, with a solid fixing surface (brick, block, steel or suitable timber).
- Check that the ordered sizes and motor side handing match the site conditions.
- Ensure there is sufficient headroom for the Guide Height plus 300 mm for the roll and endplates, and allow extra if a hood is specified.
- Verify there is adequate side room for the guides (70 mm or 90 mm each side, depending on the ordered width).
- Arrange a dedicated 230–240 V single‑phase power supply to the Rollixo Premium control position, installed by a qualified electrician.
Positioning guides and roll
- Marking out
Measure the opening and compare with the ordering sizes. Mark the finished door line and centreline internally, then mark the positions of the two side guides so they will be plumb and parallel. - Fixing the side guides
Offer each aluminium guide into position, check with a spirit level that it is vertical, and fix through the pre‑drilled holes using appropriate fixings for the substrate. Tighten evenly to keep the guides straight from top to bottom. - Setting the roll and endplates
Lift the pre‑assembled roll and endplate unit above the opening and rest the endplates on top of the guides. Align the barrel so the curtain will run centrally in the guides, then fix the endplates securely back to the wall or other suitable support, ensuring they are level and the roll has free clearance.
Mounting the Rollixo Premium control panel
- Control location
Choose an internal wall position near the motor side, within reach of the motor cable and mains supply. Mount the Rollixo Premium at a convenient height, away from damp or splash zones, and with space for cable entry and a clear line around the antenna. - Fixing the panel
Secure the control panel to the wall using suitable fixings. Make sure it is level and that you can easily open the front cover to access terminals, buttons, indicators, built‑in light and alarm settings.
Electrical connection and control setup
- Power supply
Bring the 230–240 V supply into the Rollixo Premium unit and connect according to the wiring diagram supplied. Fit a local isolator so that the door system can be safely switched off for servicing. - Wiring the motor and safety devices
Connect the tube motor leads to the designated motor terminals. Wire the optical safety edge in the bottom seal and the infra‑red safety beams to the relevant safety inputs, following the Somfy instructions to ensure correct obstacle detection. - Connecting the Somfy Connectivity Kit
Install and link the Connectivity Kit to the Rollixo Premium control as per the smart control instructions so the door can be paired with the Somfy app and voice assistants. - Pairing the remote handsets
Use the Rollixo Premium programming procedure to register the Somfy Keygo handsets to the control unit, then test each handset for open, close and stop functions. - Pairing the wireless wall switch
Pair the Somfy wireless wall‑mounted switch as an additional remote. Once paired, mount it on an internal wall within radio range at a convenient height.
Setting limits, alarm, light and testing safety
- Travel limits
Set the upper and lower limits following the Rollixo/motor procedure. The lower limit should close the curtain firmly onto the floor without excessive pressure; the upper limit should stop before the curtain overwinds or touches the fixing points. - Courtesy light and timer
Configure the built‑in courtesy light and its run‑on time according to the control panel instructions. Check that the light comes on when the door operates and switches off after the selected delay. - Alarm setup
Activate and test the integrated alarm so that it sounds when the door is tampered with or the curtain is forcibly lifted while closed. Adjust sensitivity if necessary within the recommended settings. - Operational tests
Run several full open/close cycles using both a handset and the wireless wall switch. Confirm that the door runs smoothly, stays central in the guides and stops consistently at the set limits. - Safety edge test
During a closing cycle, place a suitable test object under the bottom seal to confirm that the optical safety edge detects the obstruction and causes the door to stop and reverse. - Infra‑red beam test
Interrupt the infra‑red beams during closure to verify that the door responds correctly (preventing closure or reversing) to meet safety requirements for remote and app control. - Manual override test
Engage the internal manual winding system and check that the door can be opened and closed smoothly by hand. Disengage and re‑test powered operation.
Hoods, sealing and finishing
- Fitting half or full hood (if specified)
Position the aluminium hood over the curtain roll and fix it to the endplates and any support brackets as shown in the installation instructions. Make sure it is secure and does not foul the moving curtain or guides. - Weather sealing
Seal the junctions between guides, endplates and the wall with a suitable external‑grade sealant. Check the floor line and consider a threshold seal where there are gaps or uneven areas. - Final presentation
Inspect all fixings, cable runs and covers, remove protective films, and clean down the curtain, guides and hood to leave a neat finished installation.
User handover and safety notes
- Demonstrate operation via the remote handsets, wireless wall switch and, once configured, the smartphone app and any voice control in use.
- Explain the role of the optical safety edge and infra‑red beams and stress the importance of keeping the doorway clear while the door is moving.
- Show the user how the courtesy light and alarm operate and how they relate to everyday use.
- Demonstrate the internal manual override and, if fitted, any external low‑level manual release, and point out the location of the mains isolator.
- Advise against boxing in the guides, hood, motor area or control panel so that inspection and maintenance remain accessible.
- Remind the user that any adjustments to electrical components or safety devices should only be made by a suitably qualified person.
Installed and commissioned correctly, the Samson SRD77 Premium Smart with Somfy Rollixo Premium control provides a modern, fully featured remote and smart‑controlled garage door system with robust safety, security and everyday convenience.

Measuring and Ordering Guidance – Samson SRD77 'Premium' Smart
Ordering sizes for the Samson SRD77 are based on the Over Guide Width (OGW) and Guide Height (GH). OGW is the overall width including both side guides. GH is the vertical height of the guides only and does not include the 300 mm required above for the roll and endplates.
Guide sizes and ordering width
- Doors up to 3000 mm wide use 75 mm guides on each side as standard.
- Doors over 3000 mm and up to 5200 mm wide use 90 mm guides on each side as standard.
To calculate your Over Guide Width (ordering width):
- For doors up to 3000 mm wide: OGW = structural opening width + 150 mm (2 × 75 mm).
- For doors over 3000 mm wide: OGW = structural opening width + 180 mm (2 × 90 mm).
Clear Opening Width will therefore be:
- Ordering width − 150 mm for doors up to 3000 mm wide.
- Ordering width − 180 mm for doors over 3000 mm wide.
Guide height, overall height and clear opening height
- The Guide Height (GH) is the ordering height and equals the vertical length of the side guides.
- The Overall Height required on site = Guide Height + 300 mm (to allow for the roll and endplates above the opening).
The approximate Clear Opening Height is:
- Guide Height − about 50 mm, allowing for the bottom slat to sit down into the guides when the door is fully open.
Behind‑fit installation
For a standard behind‑fit installation (door and guides fixed to the inside face of the opening):
- Measure the structural opening width and height.
- Use the formulas above to calculate the Over Guide Width (OGW) from the opening width.
- Use the desired clear opening height as your Guide Height, then check you have at least GH + 300 mm of headroom inside the garage.
Inbetween‑fit installation
For inbetween‑fit (between reveal) installations:
- Use the reveal width as your starting point and allow a tolerance (typically a few millimetres each side) so the guides will fit between the reveals without forcing.
- A half hood or full hood is usually recommended to cloak the roll and provide weather protection when fitting between the opening or under the lintel.
- Check that the internal reveal height can accommodate the Guide Height plus the 300 mm required above for the roll and endplates.
Allowing for fitting tolerances
When ordering for between‑fit installations, do not use the exact tight brick‑to‑brick width as your OGW. Always allow a small tolerance (typically 5–10 mm less than the measured reveal width overall) to account for walls that are not perfectly plumb or parallel and to give room for shimming and sealing. This makes installation easier and helps ensure the guides sit true without being forced into the opening.
If you are unsure about how to measure for a specific opening, particularly for inbetween‑fit or low‑headroom situations, please contact Samson Doors with your opening dimensions so they can confirm the correct ordering sizes before you place your order.
