Samson Doors recently supplied and installed four SeceuroShield 60 electric security shutters at a high-end residential property in London. The customer needed dependable physical security across four openings of very different widths, along with a practical way to take some of the heat out of the building during the warmer months.
Project overview
The brief was led by safety and security. The customer wanted a robust, permanent barrier across a run of openings that could be secured easily having to wrestle with heavy manual curtains whilst not detracting from the aesthetics of the home. Reducing solar gain was a secondary but welcome consideration, and it shaped the choice of finish.
The four openings varied considerably, from just over a metre wide up to nearly five metres. Rather than mixing products, we specified the SeceuroShield 60 throughout. Its span capability of up to 6000mm meant every opening could be covered by a single made to measure curtain, giving a consistent appearance across the elevation and avoiding the need for mullions or paired shutters on the wider apertures.

The SeceuroShield 60 sits towards the top of the Seceuro shutter range. The double skinned extruded curtain creates an exceptionally rigid barrier that resists impact and forced entry, while the powder coated finish keeps the installation looking neat against any style of building.
Design and installation
Each shutter was individually manufactured to suit its own opening, so the boxes and guides sit tidily within the surrounding framing.
Day to day operation is by remote control, with three handsets supplied so that more than one keyholder can open and close the shutters without being tied to a fixed switch position. It makes securing the building a quick and low effort job, and it removes the physical effort entirely — an important consideration on curtains of this size. The SeceuroShield 60 can also be specified with internal rocker switches, external key switches, digital keypads or a connection into a building management system, and a manual override can be added at order stage for openings that serve as a single exit.
Why white was chosen
The white finish was a considered choice rather than a purely aesthetic one. A pale, reflective surface absorbs less solar radiation than a dark one, and when the shutters are closed they shade the glazing behind them, which helps limit the amount of heat reaching the interior on hot days.
It is worth being clear about what this does and does not do. The SeceuroShield 60 is a security shutter, not an insulated one — the curtain is double skinned extruded aluminium rather than foam filled — so the benefit here is a useful reduction in solar gain, not a thermal insulation value. For this customer, with security as the priority, it was a sensible bonus rather than the reason for the specification.
Performance and benefits for similar sites
This type of installation would also suit offices, showrooms, retail units, industrial premises and any London property with a run of accessible ground floor windows or doorways. Electric operation removes the daily physical strain of manual shutters, which matters where the same openings are secured every evening, and it makes closing up a quick, consistent routine.
SeceuroShield products are covered by a two year parts warranty, extending to five years on motors and controls, with a recommended service interval of every 12 months or 1,000 cycles. With a stock colour range of white, black, cream and dark brown, and custom powder coating available to almost any RAL or BS colour, the shutters can be matched to existing joinery or corporate branding.
