Hormann V 5030 MSL Machine Protection Door
Protect your workforce without slowing down production. The Hormann V 5030 MSL is a dedicated machine protection door designed to serve as a flexible, high-speed safety guard for automated manufacturing cells.
Replacing slow rigid gates or non-physical light curtains, it provides a physical shield against noise, sparks, and debris while enabling rapid access to the machine. Fully integrated into your machine's control logic, it ensures absolute safety compliance.
Key Benefits
- Performance Level d Safety: Integrated sensors allow for a certified safety interlock—the machine will not run unless the door is closed.
- Physical Protection: Unlike light curtains, it protects operators from flying chips, coolant spray, welding sparks, and hazardous noise.
- Boost Productivity: Rapid 1.5 m/s opening speed reduces cycle times during loading/unloading compared to traditional safety cages.
- Clear Visibility: Large vision panels allow continuous visual monitoring of the robot or machine process.
- Space Saving: Rolls up vertically, requiring a much smaller footprint than swing-out safety gates.

Hormann V 5030 MSL Machine Protection High Speed Door
The Active Safety Barrier for Modern Production Lines
The Hormann V 5030 MSL is not just a high-speed door; it is a certified safety device designed to form an integral part of automated manufacturing cells. In environments where robots, CNC machines, or automated welding systems operate, standard light curtains often fail to provide adequate physical protection against flying debris, sparks, or noise. The V 5030 MSL bridges this gap, offering a monitored physical barrier that protects personnel while allowing rapid access for loading, unloading, and maintenance.
Certified Safety Integration (Performance Level d)
The critical difference between the V 5030 MSL and a standard industrial door is its intelligent safety architecture. The door is engineered to integrate directly with your machine's safety circuit. It features redundant safety sensors located in the aluminium bottom profile and the side frame which reliably transmit the door's status to the system control.
This creates a fail-safe interlock system meeting Performance Level d (according to EN ISO 13849-1):
- Machine Safety: The automated machinery can only operate when the door is fully closed and the safety circuit is complete.
- Operator Safety: The door can only open when the machine is in a confirmed idle or safe state.
Visibility and Process Monitoring
While physical separation is necessary for safety, visual contact with the production process is often essential. The V 5030 MSL curtain is constructed with a high-grade 4mm transparent section (or optionally fully transparent) that provides a clear view of the machinery. This allows operators to monitor robotic movements or welding processes from a safe distance without interrupting the production cycle.
Built for High-Frequency Cycles
Automated production lines demand speed. Waiting for slow safety gates to open and close adds seconds to every cycle, which accumulates into hours of lost productivity. The V 5030 MSL utilises the powerful BK 150 FU E H frequency converter control to achieve opening speeds of up to 1.5 m/s. This rapid action minimises "dead time" during workpiece exchange, significantly boosting the overall efficiency (OEE) of the manufacturing cell.
Robust Design
Despite its speed, the curtain remains stable and secure thanks to integrated spring steel wind locks. These ensure the door travels smoothly within the guides and resists the air pressure often generated by fast-moving robotic arms or ventilation systems within the cell.
Robotic Welding Cells
In automated welding zones, the V 5030 MSL acts as a vital shield. It protects nearby staff from harmful UV flash (with appropriate curtain selection) and welding sparks, while the high-speed operation allows for rapid exchange of jigs and workpieces.
CNC Machining Centres
CNC milling and turning creates noise, coolant mist, and flying swarf. The V 5030 MSL contains these hazards completely within the machine area. When the cycle finishes, the door opens instantly for the operator to reload, ensuring the machine spends maximum time cutting metal.
Automated Assembly Lines
Where products move from a safe zone into a hazardous automated assembly zone, the V 5030 MSL serves as the "handshake" point. It allows the transfer of goods on conveyors while ensuring that no personnel can accidentally reach into the hazardous area while the line is moving.
Laser Protection (Specific Config)
When specified with appropriate curtain materials, this door is ideal for enclosing laser cutting or marking stations, containing scattered radiation while allowing safe access.
