Overview
The Xpanda SaftiDor double sash is a versatile, trackless security grille designed to provide fast, visible protection. Supplied as two sashes to meet perfectly in the centre, it provides a strong visual deterrent through a classic diamond lattice pattern. Built from powder-coated steel by a manufacturer with over 50 years of experience, this trackless system is heavy-weight yet remarkably easy to handle. It secures large shop fronts, warehouse loading bays, car parks, and wide residential entrances effectively against forced entry.
How it operates
The system operates entirely without fixed top or bottom tracks, making it exceptionally adaptable for uneven floors or wide entrances where tracks would cause an unacceptable trip hazard. The two sashes run on wheeled trolleys and simply glide towards the centre to close. For fast and reliable protection, the sashes lock securely together in the middle with an XP2 lock pack. For added stability across wide openings, each trolley can be locked down temporarily using integrated floor shoot bolts. Locking devices also secure the end posts to your walls, creating a continuous, stable barrier. Patented security rivets hold the entire assembly together to maintain structural integrity over years of regular use.
Installation: Reveal or face fit
Because the system is completely trackless, it does not have to fit exactly within a doorway frame. You can face fit the barrier onto the internal wall, or choose a standard reveal fit positioned directly in-between the doorway aperture. Face fitting is usually the better choice for wide openings. It allows both fully retractable sashes to stack neatly and completely clear of the entrance, giving you maximum walk-through width. If a tight reveal fit is your only option, the system includes standard hinges on both fixed sides. This swing-away functionality lets you pivot the bunched sashes 90 degrees or more, keeping the entrance highly accessible during the day.
Sizes and Configurations
This double sash configuration protects large doorways up to 3900mm wide and is available in standard 2000mm or 2500mm heights. Because these products are supplied in a range of standard sizes "off the shelf", lead times are typically much quicker than made-to-measure bespoke grilles.
Please note: The size you select is per sash. For example, an order for 1000 x 2000mm will be supplied as two individual sashes, each measuring 1000mm wide x 2000mm high, to cover a total width of 2000mm.

Standard Specification
The double sash SaftiDor is constructed as a heavy duty diamond mesh collapsible gate. You can specify the system for openings up to 3900mm wide, available in two set heights of 2000mm or 2500mm. The complete unit comes fully equipped with hinges for both sides for immediate installation. Sashes are finished in white as standard. But a black powder coat is also available directly from stock.
Reveal or Face Fit Configurations
You must choose between a standard reveal fit or a face fit specification. The reveal option fits the gate exactly in-between your brickwork or frame. A face fit mounts the gate to the inside wall using 38mm square vertical steel posts, and you can specify optional spacers at 75mm or 150mm to clear protruding handles or skirting boards. When specifying a face fit, you should always order a size larger than the opening. This allows both opened sashes to stack completely out of the way, leaving your wide entrance fully clear.
Options and Modifications

Installation Overview
Fitting the double sash SaftiDor is a straightforward process. It requires no floor tracking. Because there are absolutely no floor fixings or heavy base posts involved, installation is quick and highly suited to competent DIYers or local tradespeople.
Mounting the Gates
You simply hang each sash from your opposite walls or door frame using the standard pairs of hinges provided. The two gates pull across the wide doorway and lock securely together in the centre. This provides a rigid, physical closure without the need for complex groundworks or a bottom track.
Castor Wheel Clearance
Because the double sash covers wide spans up to 3900mm, castor wheels are included to support the moving ends of both sashes. When measuring to fit the grille squarely within a tight doorway reveal, you must allow exactly 45mm of vertical clearance beneath the gates to accommodate these wheels. This guarantees both sashes glide freely to meet in the middle without dragging.

And the guarantee applies to both internal and external installations, provided the gates are mounted accurately according to the standard supplied instructions.
Maintenance Conditions
You must carry out basic upkeep to maintain your warranty. Wipe down the powder-coated finish occasionally and keep the expanding lattice clear of heavy grit. Ensure the hinges and locking components remain clean so both sashes pull shut easily without forced resistance. But note that the guarantee does not cover accidental damage, improper use, unauthorised modifications, or standard wear and tear over time.

How to Measure for Your SaftiDor
Before you take any measurements, decide how the grille will mount. Your chosen fixing method completely changes the sizes you need to order. You can fit the system inside the opening or onto the face of the wall.
Reveal Fit (In-between)
Measuring for a reveal fit is straightforward. Take the width and height of your opening in three different places, using the smallest dimension as your guide. Because the SaftiDor is a completely trackless system, it offers exceptional flexibility. It does not need to match your doorway width perfectly. If your exact width falls between standard sizes, simply order the next size up. The lattice will concertina slightly tighter to fill the gap securely.
Face Fit (Surface Mount)
Face fitting allows the bunched sashes to sit completely clear of the doorway. Measure your structural opening first. Then add enough width to your order size so the stacked lattice rests flat against the wall rather than protruding into your walk-through space. For example, if your doorway is 2200mm wide, ordering a 2600mm double sash allows the gate to span the gap completely while keeping the bunched metal clear of the entrance during trading hours. You must ensure you have solid brickwork or heavy timber around the aperture to secure the wall brackets safely.
Using Offset Spacers
Look at the wall where the grille will stack. Skirting boards, light switches, or bulky door handles will block a standard flush fit. To bypass these everyday obstructions, you can mount the gate using 38mm square vertical steel posts. We supply offset spacers at either 75mm or 150mm. Simply measure how far your deepest obstruction sticks out from the wall and select the spacer bracket that safely clears it.
