How to Order an Electric Shutter - Motor & Motor with Override

Ordering a custom-made SeceuroShield 3800 electric shutter is straightforward when you know exactly what each option means. This guide walks you through the 14 key steps to ensure you provide the correct measurements and specifications for a perfect fit.

1. Choose the Application

Is the shutter going to be fitted to a door or window?

Expert Tip: If you are fitting an electric shutter over a doorway that acts as a fire escape or primary exit, you must specify a motor with a manual override (see Step 4) so the shutter can still be opened in the event of a power failure.

2. Calculate the Order Size

Your ordering dimensions must be the OVERALL GUIDE WIDTH and OVERALL GUIDE HEIGHT (including the shutter box). This is the most critical step.

  • For a Face Fix (fitting onto the wall around the opening): You must take your structural opening size and add the width of the guide rails to the width, and add the height of the shutter box to the height.
  • For a Reveal Fix (fitting between the brickwork): Your overall ordering size will be the tightest measurement of your opening, minus a small fitting tolerance (usually 5-10mm).

Please ensure when ordering for a face fix that you have included the guides and appropriate size shutter box depending on the shutter height. Box Sizes available: 137mm, 165mm, 180mm, 200mm, 205mm, 225mm, or 295mm.

3. Choose Colour

Choose your Curtain, Bottom Slat, Box and Guide Colour to match your property.

Please note there will be a surcharge for non-standard colours. Matching the guides and box to the curtain colour is standard practice, but contrasting colours can also be specified.

See Powdercoated Colour Options >

4. Method of Operation - Motor or Motor and Override

Choose the type of 240V tubular motor required for your shutter:

  • Motor Only: Standard electric operation.
  • Motor and Override: Includes a manual winding facility. Essential if the shutter is covering a main doorway and you need an emergency exit route during a power cut.

5. Guide Rail Type

Select from H17, H25, H30, H34, H40/S, Standard (50mm), Extended (65mm), Wind Lock (65mm), UPH250.

  • H30 Guides: Supplied as standard and suitable for most applications.
  • H17 & H25 Guides: Available on request for tighter installations. (Note: H17 Guide Rails are suitable for internal use only).
  • H40/S Guides: Used where additional security is required. Wind end locks will be fitted to the curtain as standard when this heavy-duty option is selected.

6. Bottom Slat Type

The bottom slat finishes the shutter neatly and provides a seal against the floor. Available options:

  • Bottom slat with reinforcing angle
  • Bottom slat with rubber seal
  • Bottom slat with reinforcing angle and rubber seal (This option will attract a surcharge)

Expert Tip: Extruded aluminium with reinforcing angle is standard. Opting for the rubber seal in place of the reinforcing angle (a no-cost option) is highly recommended for electric shutters. It accommodates slight unevenness in the floor, provides a softer closure, and helps prevent draughts.

7. Side of Operation

Specify whether the motor should be located on the Left Hand Side or Right Hand Side (as viewed from the inside looking out). This will dictate where the power cable needs to be wired.

8. Cable Exit

How do you want the motor cable to exit the shutter box? Choose from A, B, C, D, E, F or specify "leave cable in the box".

Expert Tip: Planning your cable exit in advance ensures a neat installation without trapping wires or requiring excessive drilling on-site.

9. Bottom Slat Locks or Shoot Bolts

Because the electric motor inherently holds the curtain down, additional locks are usually unnecessary. However, if you require secondary manual locking:

  • Locks (Type A / Type B)
  • Shoot Bolts (Type A / Type B)
  • Not Required (Standard)

IMPORTANT: If you specify manual locks on an electric shutter, you must ensure they are fully unlocked before operating the motor to prevent severe damage to the curtain.

Lock Types

10. Installation - Internal or External

Specify whether the shutter will be fitted inside or outside the building. External shutters require proper silicone sealing around the box and guides during installation.

11. Guide Rail Fixing - Left and Right

How will the guides be attached to your building?

  • Face Fix: Fixed flat against the face of the wall, completely outside the opening aperture.
  • Reveal Fix: Fixed between the brickwork or structural opening.
  • Undrilled: Select this if you prefer your installers to drill the fixing holes on-site.

12. Removable Guides Required - Yes or No

Usually "No" for standard windows and doors. Removable guides are typically only required on corner shopfronts or wide continuous counters.

13. Vision Slats Required - Yes or None

If you require light or airflow through the curtain:

  • If Yes, choose quantity: Specify how many vision slats are required.
  • Glazing: Choose between Vision Glazed (with clear polycarbonate inserts) or Vision Unglazed.
  • Style: Punched (rectangular cut-outs) or Perforated (small circular holes).

Expert Tip: You will need to know what height you require the vision slats to be positioned in the curtain. Please give a measurement from floor level to the bottom of the vision section so they align perfectly with your window or product display.

14. Electrical Control Method

Select how you want to operate your electric shutter:

  • No Switch Required
  • Surface Mounted Switch (Hold to run)
  • Flush Mounted Switch (Hold to run)
  • Surface Mounted (Momentary) Keyswitch
  • Flush Mounted (Momentary) Keyswitch
