Contemporary Design with Bold Visual Impact
The Fort Horizontal Wide Rib steel side-hinged garage door features broader, more widely-spaced horizontal ribbing to create a stronger, more contemporary visual effect than the standard ribbed version. Each leaf features deep pressing across the width of the panel, creating pronounced shadow lines that add depth and presence to the garage frontage. This makes the door particularly well suited to newer UK properties where bolder, simpler design details are preferred.
In a white or light neutral finish the wide ribs break up the expanse of steel in a pleasing, modern way, while in darker RAL colours the horizontal lines can create a striking, architectural look. The side-hinged arrangement retains the practical benefits of paired doors, but the panel design helps the garage feel more like part of the main building rather than an afterthought.
Robust Steel Construction
Manufactured from single-skin galvanised steel with pressed profiles for strength and stability, the Horizontal Wide Rib door is designed for reliable everyday use. The wider rib pattern adds additional rigidity to the panels, which helps in everyday use where accidental bumps, wind loading and regular opening and closing are inevitable. This makes the door a sound choice for busy family garages used for bikes, sports kit, tools and general storage.
Single-skin steel construction offers an ideal balance between strength, weight, and cost-effectiveness, making this door perfect for standard residential garages where thermal insulation is not a primary requirement. The steel framework ensures the door maintains its shape and alignment over years of regular use, resisting warping and sagging that can affect lesser-quality alternatives.
Side-Hinged Configuration Benefits
Side-hinged garage doors offer several practical advantages for residential properties:
• Full-Width Access: Both doors open fully, providing unrestricted access for vehicles, equipment, and materials
• Pedestrian Access: Single leaf can be opened for convenient walk-through access without opening the entire garage
• No Overhead Mechanism: Ceiling space remains free for storage, lighting, or overhead equipment
• Contemporary Aesthetic: Bold design suits modern properties and updated traditional homes
• Manual Operation: Simple, reliable mechanical operation with no requirement for electrical power
• Easy Maintenance: Straightforward hinge and locking mechanisms are simple to maintain and repair
Flexible Configuration Options
The Fort Horizontal Wide Rib is available in two door split configurations to suit different garage layouts and user preferences:
• 50/50 Split: Equal-width door leaves provide symmetrical appearance and balanced opening operation
• 1/3 - 2/3 Split: Asymmetric configuration offers convenient single-leaf pedestrian access whilst maintaining full opening capability
The doors open outward as standard, requiring sufficient clearance in front of the garage. Pull handles are fitted to the front panels as standard for convenient operation.
Extensive Colour Options
Available in a comprehensive range of RAL colours, the Fort Horizontal Wide Rib can be perfectly matched to your property's existing colour scheme. Standard colour options include:
• Pure White (RAL 9010): Clean, bright finish suitable for most contemporary and traditional homes
• Signal Grey (RAL 7004): Modern neutral tone perfect for contemporary architectural styles
• Anthracite Grey: Popular choice for modern window coordination
• Custom RAL Colours: Available upon request to match specific architectural requirements
The factory-applied colour finish offers a smart, durable surface that is simple to clean with mild soapy water, making it ideal for exposed UK locations.
Installation and Sizing
The Fort Horizontal Wide Rib is supplied as a factory-assembled doorset with a steel sub-frame, designed to be installed directly into the structural opening with minimal on-site assembly. Standard sizes cover common UK single garage openings up to 10ft wide, with height options to suit typical lintel levels.
For installers and competent DIYers, this pre-assembled arrangement reduces time on site and helps ensure that clearances, alignment and gasket compression are correct once the frame is packed and fixed in place.
