SeceuroGuard 1000 External Doorway Grille

The SeceuroGuard 1000 External Doorway Security Grille provides a high quality collapsible steel defence designed specifically for face mounted installation on the outside of domestic and commercial properties. Custom built to exact measurements up to 1600mm wide and 2500mm high, this robust system ensures comprehensive doorway security while enduring unpredictable external weather conditions.

Important Ordering Note: This external face fix configuration requires additional measurements to be added to your clear doorway opening size. To calculate the correct overall frame size, you must add the sash bunch size (the space where the retracted grille stacks) and the top reinforced section depth. Please consult our ordering guide or contact our technical team for assistance with your dimension calculations.

It is the ideal security solution for front doors, back doors, side entrances, and commercial access points where surface mounting directly to the external building facade is the most viable installation method. Please be aware of any fire exit protocols particularly when used in a commercial site and ensure it is complying with the fire strategy during operational hours for the building.

Benefits for British Properties

Installing an external face mounted security grille provides several distinct advantages for safeguarding the main entry points of your property:

  • Acts as a highly visible primary physical deterrent to stop opportunistic intruders before they even reach your main solid door
  • Allows you to leave your solid external doors wide open during warm weather to maximise air flow while maintaining total entrance security
  • Galvanised and powder coated finish ensures exceptional weather resistance against harsh British wind and rain
  • Creates an extremely secure barrier over recessed doorways or alcoves preventing unwanted access to the porch area
  • Zero maintenance operation ensures quick and effortless locking when leaving the property

Flexible Design Options

You can personalise your security grille by selecting either the traditional 'X' lattice or the softer 'S' lattice design at the exact same price. Depending on your specific doorway setup, the system is available as a single sash that stacks neatly to one side, or a double sash that divides centrally to stack evenly on both sides of the doorway.

This fully weather protected system comes in 122 standard colours to coordinate effortlessly with your exterior brickwork or cladding. Special custom colours are also available upon application. To find your perfect match, view the RAL Colour Chart PDF here.

Practical Track Solutions

For locations requiring a completely clear threshold, this external doorway system offers a removable bottom track option. This provides excellent flexibility for entrances where uninterrupted wheelchair or foot access is needed, or where the bottom track requires periodic removal for sweeping and cleaning.

Available in single or double sash arrangements to suit customer requirements, this application-specific solution is ideal for both domestic and commercial premises where external doorways require robust security protection with surface-mounted installation.

IMPORTANT: When ordering this external doorway face-fix configuration, overall frame dimensions must include additional allowances for the sash bunch size (stack-back area) and the top reinforced section. The doorway opening size alone is not sufficient - these additions are essential for correct frame fabrication. Our technical team can provide guidance on calculating the correct overall dimensions for your specific doorway installation.

FOR DOMESTIC PREMISES

Elegant good looks with a heart of steel - the SeceuroGuard 1000 Retractable Security Gate System combines a classic appearance with strength, making it an ideal security choice for external doorways where face-mounting is required. The high quality components used in manufacturing, combined with galvanised steel and weather-resistant powder coating, make this one of the best security grilles for external doorway applications in the UK market. It is strong and yet subtle in appearance with elegant profile sections.

Designed to keep intruders out while letting maximum light in, they are perfect for:
  • Front doors and main entrance doorways
  • Back doors and rear entrance doorways
  • Side doors and service entrance doorways
  • Kitchen doors to gardens and outdoor areas
  • Utility room external doorways
  • Garage to exterior doorways
  • Basement and cellar external doorways
  • Properties with insufficient reveal depth for internal fitting
  • Listed buildings where internal installation is not permitted
  • Any external doorway requiring face-mounted security

When in use, gates can be locked to provide doorway security whilst maintaining visibility. Perfect for security-conscious homeowners who require robust external doorway protection that can be retracted during the day.
When not in use these retractable gates are surprisingly unobtrusive. They stack to the side(s) of the doorway opening, and the face-mounted design allows for easy operation and maintenance from outside the building.

The collapsible security gates are configured for external face-fix installation on doorway openings up to 1600mm wide and 2500mm high, accommodating standard UK residential doorway sizes. Customers can choose between single sash (stacking to one side) or double sash (stacking to both sides) depending on their doorway configuration and space availability around the door.

The removable bottom track option is particularly useful where access requirements change, or where wheelchair access, pushchair access, or clear threshold passage is needed when the grille is not in use.

Essentially maintenance free with galvanised construction and weather-resistant powder coating, each SeceuroGuard 1000 is available in a range of colour options to complement your property's exterior and door colour, and can also be supplied with optional decorative 'S' Profile lattices instead of the standard X lattice design.

FOR COMMERCIAL PREMISES

Allowing maximum natural light into commercial premises whilst providing robust external doorway security, retractable gates fold to the sides of the doorway opening when not required and can provide highly visible security deterrence when deployed. be aware of the fire strategy and ensure this product is nt contravening any protocol for fire exits during business opening hours.

Commercial premises, retail entrances, office buildings, industrial units and valuable equipment are safely protected by an exceptionally strong security barrier, manufactured from pre-galvanised rolled steel with multi point locking from a single key.

Offering security features which are particularly important for external commercial doorways, the SeceuroGuard 1000 ensures excellent barrier security. Whilst the top hung ultra-smooth carrier system and nylon coated steel bearings also ensure it is quick and easy to open and close. This configuration (up to 1600mm wide x 2500mm high) makes it perfect for:
  • Retail shop entrance doorways
  • Commercial premises external doors
  • Office building entrance and exit doorways
  • Warehouse and industrial unit external doorways
  • Restaurant and hospitality venue external doorways
  • Storage facility and depot doorways
  • Educational building external doorways
  • Healthcare facility external entrance doors
  • Sports and leisure facility doorways
  • Any commercial external doorway requiring face-mounted security

The choice between single or double sash arrangements allows customers to select the most appropriate configuration for their specific doorway installation. Single sash options are often preferred where one-sided stacking is suitable and space on one side of the doorway is available, whilst double sash arrangements provide symmetrical operation and are ideal for wider doorway openings where a central division is aesthetically preferable.

Face fix mounting is essential where insufficient reveal depth exists, where building construction prevents internal or between-aperture installation, or where external mounting outside the doorway is architecturally specified. This method allows the SeceuroGuard 1000 to be installed on virtually any external doorway regardless of reveal depth or structural constraints.

The removable bottom track option provides operational flexibility for commercial settings where access requirements may vary, or where compliance with accessibility standards requires periodic removal of threshold obstructions outside the doorway.

CRITICAL ORDERING INFORMATION: When specifying this external doorway face-fix configuration, ensure that overall frame dimensions include the actual doorway opening size PLUS the sash bunch dimension (the width required for the retracted grille stack) PLUS the top reinforced section depth. Failure to include these additional dimensions will result in insufficient coverage around the doorway. Our technical specification team can assist with accurate dimension calculations to ensure correct fit and operation for your doorway installation.

SeceuroGuard 1000 is essentially maintenance free with galvanised and powder coated construction for external durability, and available in a broad range of optional colours to complement building façades, door colours and corporate styling. Installation

Installation Guidance: External Doorway SeceuroGuard 1000 Grille

Installing a SeceuroGuard 1000 retractable security grille externally over a doorway (up to 1800mm wide) is a straightforward process for competent DIYers and tradespeople. At this size, the grille is generally simple enough for a single person to handle. The smooth operation and ultimate security of the grille depend entirely on the framework being installed perfectly square, plumb, and level.

Important: External Doorway Considerations

  • Trip Hazards: When fitting over a doorway, we highly recommend specifying an optional folding or removable bottom track to eliminate a permanent trip hazard.
  • Weathering: We recommend that all externally fitted gates are ordered in a dark colour, as some general surface weathering may appear over a long period in damp outdoor conditions.

1. Pre Installation Size Check

Before beginning, unpack the grille and verify the dimensions against your exterior opening. The SeceuroGuard grille is always ordered with the Overall Width and Overall Height, which includes the entire surrounding framework and the bunched sash.

Because you are carrying out an external Face Fit Installation (fitting to the exterior wall surface rather than inside the recess), ensure your ordered sizes correctly account for the side posts, top and bottom tracks, and any necessary reinforcement sections sitting flat against the brickwork.

Seceuroguard Installation Dimensions and Track Layout

2. Preparing the Exterior Opening

  • Clear Obstructions: Clear the exterior installation area of any obstructions, such as outdoor lighting, drainpipes, or uneven rendering. Ensure adequate clearance on the wall for the sash bunch width to sit out of the way of the doorway.
  • Check Substrate: You must use the correct exterior-grade fixings for your specific wall type (e.g., heavy-duty masonry anchors for exterior brick or concrete). Note: Fixings are not typically supplied, as the required type depends entirely on your building material.

3. Positioning and Fixing the Framework

  • Assemble the Frame: At widths up to 1800mm, the tracks and side posts can easily be offered up to the exterior wall together as a single manageable frame.
  • Level and Plumb: Use a high-quality spirit level to ensure the top track is perfectly horizontal and the side posts are perfectly vertical (plumb).
  • Use Shims for Uneven Brickwork: Exterior walls and pointing are rarely perfectly flat. If your structural opening is uneven, use suitable packing shims behind the tracks. Do not bend the tracks to follow an uneven exterior wall, as this will distort the frame and cause the sliding mechanism to jam.
  • Secure the Fixings: Drill pilot holes and secure the framework into the exterior masonry. Fixings should generally be spaced no more than 400mm apart, ensuring there are strong fixing points close to the corners and directly behind the locking keep.

4. Sash Installation & Locking Mechanism

  • Attach the sash carrier wheels to the top track and carefully guide the lattice sash into the track system.
  • Install the lock posts and slam posts according to your specific configuration.

5. Testing and Commissioning

  • Clean the Tracks: Wipe the bottom track completely clean of any brick dust, swarf, leaves, or outdoor debris. Dirt in the bottom track is the single most common cause of rough or jammed operation for external grilles.
  • Slide Test: Slowly slide the grille curtain back and forth. It should run smoothly along the top and bottom tracks without catching or requiring excessive force. Adjust carrier wheels if binding occurs.
  • Lock Test: The lock should engage smoothly into the receiving post without needing to be forced. If the lock is stiff, double-check that your side posts are perfectly parallel.

Measure

How to Measure for an External SeceuroGuard 1000 Door Grille (Max 1800mm W x 2500mm H)

Accurate measuring is the most critical step when ordering your retractable security grille. We always recommend using a sturdy metal tape measure and taking your measurements in millimetres (mm) for the highest accuracy.

Because you are fitting this grille externally over a doorway, thoroughly check the exterior brickwork for any obstructions such as outdoor lighting, drainpipes, deep pointing, or uneven rendering that might interfere with the tracks sitting flat against the wall.

1. The "Overall Size" Rule

Important: SeceuroGuard grilles are always ordered by their Overall Width and Overall Height. This means the dimensions you provide will be the exact physical size of the manufactured product, including the entire surrounding outer framework and tracks, not just the sliding grille curtain.

Size Limitations for this Application

This specific external doorway configuration is available up to a maximum overall width of 1800mm and a maximum overall height of 2500mm. At these sizes, the grille is manageable for safe manual handling and installation.

2. Measuring for an External Face Fit (Outside the Doorway Recess)

A face fit means the grille will be installed directly onto the exterior wall face, overlapping the structural doorway opening. Because it sits on the wall, your ordering dimensions will need to be larger than the doorway opening itself to ensure a clear walk-through space.

When calculating your external face fit sizes, you must add the following to your clear doorway opening dimensions:

  • The Sash (Bunch) Size: When the grille is fully opened, the metal lattices bunch together at the side. This bunched sash takes up approximately 15% of the total order width. To ensure the bunched grille clears your doorway completely (allowing a full, unobstructed walk-through), you must add this 15% bunch size to your structural doorway width.
  • The Locking Post: Allow additional width on the locking side so the post sits securely on the brickwork.
  • The Top Track: Ensure you have enough flat, unobstructed exterior wall space directly above the doorway lintel to accommodate the top track height.
  • The Bottom Track (Trip Hazard Warning): For doorways, we strongly recommend specifying an optional folding or removable bottom track so you do not create a permanent trip hazard across the threshold. Calculate your overall height from the floor level up to the top of where the top track will sit.

See our Comprehensive Guide to Measuring for Security Grilles >

Bunch (Sash) Sizes and Locking Options

Use the chart below to calculate exactly how much space the bunched sash will take up when the SeceuroGuard grille is fully open. This is particularly important for external doorways where maximum walk-through space is required for access or moving large items.

Please Note - Locking Restrictions: The minimum grille height required to accommodate the upgraded 4-point locking system is 1000mm. While most doorways easily exceed this, please note that any grille ordered below 1000mm in height can only be manufactured with a standard 2-point locking system.
