Benefits for British Homes
Installing a dedicated security grille over your patio doors provides several practical advantages designed for modern living and unpredictable weather:

- The space saving retractable system ensures your indoor and outdoor patio areas remain completely unobstructed when not in use
Flexible Design Options
You can personalise your grille by choosing between the classic 'X' lattice or the softer 'S' lattice design at no additional cost. Depending on your door configuration, the system is available as a single sash that stacks neatly to one side, or a double sash that parts in the middle to stack evenly across both sides of the opening.
This essentially maintenance free system comes in 122 standard colours to coordinate effortlessly with your property, alongside special custom colours available upon application. To find your perfect match, view the RAL Colour Chart PDF here.

Looking for Insurance Approved Security?
If your property requires a higher, certified level of security (often stipulated by commercial or high-value residential insurance policies), you should specify the SeceuroGuard 1001.
This upgraded model shares the exact same elegant aesthetics as the 1000 but features heavier-duty internal components and enhanced locking. It has been independently tested by the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) and awarded an LPS 1175 SR1 security rating. It is also a Police Preferred Specification under the 'Secured by Design' initiative.
Installation Guidance for Self Installers & Professionals: SeceuroGuard Grilles
Installing a SeceuroGuard retractable security grille is a straightforward process for competent DIYers and tradespeople. Smaller grilles are generally simple to handle, but sizes exceeding a single person's capability will require two or more people. The smooth operation and ultimate security of the grille depend entirely on the framework being installed perfectly square, plumb, and level.
1. Pre-Installation Size Check
Before beginning, unpack the grille and verify the dimensions against your opening. The SeceuroGuard grille is always ordered with the Overall Width and Overall Height, which includes the entire surrounding framework and the bunched sash.
- Face Fit Installation: If fitting to the wall surface rather than inside the recess, ensure you have correctly accounted for the added sizes for the side posts, top and bottom tracks, and any necessary reinforcement sections before drilling.
- Reveal Fit Installation: Measure the internal aperture dimensions—the grille framework is manufactured to fit exactly within this space.

2. Preparing the Opening & Substrate
- Clear Obstructions: Clear the installation area of skirting boards, coving, or protruding window handles. Ensure adequate clearance for the sash bunch width (approximately 15% of the overall width).
- Check Substrate: You must use the correct fixings for your specific wall type (e.g., heavy-duty masonry anchors for brick/concrete). Note: Fixings are not typically supplied, as the required type depends entirely on your building material.
- Weak Substrates: Fixing into standard plasterboard or Thermalite block is not acceptable for security purposes. Weak substrates may require reinforcement.
3. Positioning and Fixing the Framework
- Assemble the Frame: Depending on the size, the tracks and side posts may need to be offered up to the opening together. Pre-assemble track sections if supplied in multiple pieces.
- Level and Plumb: Use a high-quality spirit level to ensure the top track is perfectly horizontal and the side posts are perfectly vertical (plumb).
- Use Shims for Uneven Walls: If your structural opening is uneven, use suitable packing shims behind the tracks. Do not bend the tracks to follow an uneven wall, as this will distort the frame and cause the sliding mechanism to jam.
- Secure the Fixings: Drill pilot holes and secure the framework. Fixings should generally be spaced no more than 400mm apart, ensuring there are strong fixing points close to the corners and directly behind the locking keep.
4. Sash Installation & Locking Mechanism
- Attach the sash carrier wheels to the top track and carefully guide the lattice sash into the track system.
- Install the lock posts and slam posts according to your specific configuration.
5. Testing and Commissioning
- Clean the Tracks: Wipe the bottom track completely clean of any brick dust, swarf, or debris created during drilling. This is the most common cause of rough or jammed operation.
- Slide Test: Slowly slide the grille curtain back and forth. It should run smoothly along the top and bottom tracks without catching or requiring excessive force. Adjust carrier wheels if binding occurs.
- Lock Test: The lock should engage smoothly into the receiving post without needing to be forced. If the lock is stiff, double-check that your side posts are perfectly parallel.

How to Measure for SeceuroGuard Retractable Security Grilles
Accurate measuring is the most critical step when ordering your retractable security grille. We always recommend using a sturdy metal tape measure (rather than a cloth one) and taking your measurements in millimetres (mm) for the highest accuracy. Before you begin, check the surrounding area for any obstructions such as skirting boards, coving, or protruding window handles that might interfere with the tracks or the grille curtain.
1. The "Overall Size" Rule
Important: SeceuroGuard grilles are always ordered by their Overall Width and Overall Height. This means the dimensions you provide will be the exact physical size of the manufactured product, including the entire surrounding outer framework and tracks, not just the grille curtain itself.
2. Measuring for a Reveal Fit (Inside the Recess)
A reveal fit means the grille will sit inside the structural opening of your window or door.
- Take the width measurement at the top, middle, and bottom of the opening.
- Take the height measurement at the left, centre, and right.
- Always use the smallest measurement from these readings. Structural openings are rarely perfectly square.
- Deduct a fitting tolerance: You must allow room for installation and to ensure the frame doesn't get wedged tight. We recommend deducting approximately 5mm to 10mm from your smallest overall measurements to calculate your final ordering dimensions.
3. Measuring for a Face Fit (Outside the Recess) (This is not a usual position for collapsible grilles but does help on openings to provide as much clear space for a doorway or window when the grille is opened up)
A face fit means the grille will be installed onto the wall face (either inside or outside the building) overlapping the structural opening. Because it sits on the wall, your ordering dimensions will need to be larger than the opening itself. When calculating your face fit sizes, you must add the following to your opening dimensions:
- The top and bottom tracks: Ensure you have enough flat wall space above and below the opening to accommodate the track heights.
- The locking post: Allow width on the locking side.
- The Sash (Bunch) Size: When the grille is fully opened, the metal lattices bunch together at the side. This bunched sash takes up approximately 15% of the total order width. If you want the bunched grille to clear your window glass completely to allow full light, you must add this 15% to your structural width when calculating your total ordering width.
See our Comprehensive Guide to Measuring for Security Grilles >

Bunch (Sash) Sizes and Locking Options
Use the chart below to calculate exactly how much space the bunched sash will take up when the SeceuroGuard grille is fully open. This is particularly important for face-fitted grilles or doorways where maximum walk-through space is required.
Please Note - Locking Restrictions: The minimum grille height required to accommodate the upgraded 4-point locking system is 1000mm. If your ordered height is below 1000mm, the grille can only be manufactured with a standard 2-point locking system.
