Please note that the polycarbonate glazing is mock glazing from the outside and white panel inside, it will not let any light through.
Carriage-House Style with Decorative Character
The Fort Hartshill Vertical Standard Rib side-hinged garage door builds on the classic vertical ribbed look by adding a row of mock window panels across the top section of the leaves, creating a more decorative, carriage-house style appearance. The pressed vertical ribs provide the familiar planked effect, while the mock glazing details introduce additional visual interest and help the door mirror the look of traditional period coach doors.
This combination makes the Hartshill door particularly suited to UK homes where the garage faces the street and forms a key part of the property's kerb appeal. The mock windows suggest a lighter, more domestic character than plain steel, helping the garage blend with residential window lines and front door styles, especially on cottages, character properties or carefully detailed new builds.
Robust Steel Construction with Integrated Mock Windows
Despite its more decorative appearance, the Hartshill door remains a robust single-skin galvanised steel product, designed for regular use and long service life in typical UK weather conditions. The mock window sections are integrated into the panel design so there is no glazing to maintain, while still giving the visual effect of a partially glazed top rail.
This helps retain privacy and security without the cleaning and security considerations of real glass in some locations. The vertical ribbing stiffens the panels, and the overall construction offers a solid feel in use. The door is well suited to garages that are visible from the road or main approach, where homeowners wish to avoid a purely functional appearance but still require a secure, low-maintenance solution.
Side-Hinged Configuration Benefits
Side-hinged garage doors offer several practical advantages for residential properties:
• Full-Width Access: Both doors open fully, providing unrestricted access for vehicles, equipment, and materials
• Pedestrian Access: Single leaf can be opened for convenient walk-through access without opening the entire garage
• No Overhead Mechanism: Ceiling space remains free for storage, lighting, or overhead equipment
• Period-Style Aesthetic: Mock windows create traditional carriage-house appearance
• Manual Operation: Simple, reliable mechanical operation with no requirement for electrical power
• Easy Maintenance: Straightforward hinge and locking mechanisms are simple to maintain and repair
Flexible Configuration Options
The Fort Hartshill is available in two door split configurations to suit different garage layouts and user preferences:
• 50/50 Split: Equal-width door leaves provide symmetrical appearance and balanced opening operation
• 1/3 - 2/3 Split: Asymmetric configuration offers convenient single-leaf pedestrian access whilst maintaining full opening capability
The doors open outward as standard, requiring sufficient clearance in front of the garage. Pull handles are fitted to the front panels as standard for convenient operation.
Extensive Colour Options
Available in a comprehensive range of RAL colours, the Fort Hartshill can be perfectly matched to your property's existing colour scheme. Standard colour options include:
• Pure White (RAL 9010): Clean, bright finish suitable for most contemporary and traditional homes
• Cream and Off-White Shades: Perfect for period and cottage-style properties
• Green and Heritage Colours: Ideal for traditional streetscapes
• Signal Grey (RAL 7004): Modern neutral tone for contemporary styling
• Custom RAL Colours: Available upon request to match specific architectural requirements
The factory-applied colour finish offers a smart, durable surface that is simple to clean with mild soapy water, making it ideal for exposed UK locations.
Installation and Sizing
The Fort Hartshill is supplied as a complete steel doorset, pre-hung in its own frame for direct fixing into existing masonry openings. Standard widths up to 8ft cater for a large proportion of older UK single garages, simplifying replacement work and reducing the need for structural alterations.
For installers and competent DIYers, this pre-assembled arrangement reduces time on site and helps ensure that clearances, alignment and gasket compression are correct once the frame is packed and fixed in place.
