Description

Metador Defender PASGuard 2 – PAS 24 Double Steel Doorset

The Metador Defender PASGuard 2 is a made-to-measure, PAS 24 rated double steel doorset designed to secure wider openings on domestic and commercial properties. It combines certified resistance against opportunistic attack with the convenience of a double-leaf configuration, making it ideal for communal entrances, wider access routes, and residential projects requiring double front doors.

Certified security for wider openings

PAS 24 is the benchmark standard for enhanced security doorsets in the UK. The PASGuard 2 extends this certification to double doors, ensuring that both the active and passive leaves work together to resist forced entry. It is Secured by Design approved and third-party tested, making it a compliant solution for new-build developments under Building Regulations Part Q.

Made to measure and fully customisable

Built to order in the UK, the PASGuard 2 can be sized to fit your specific structural opening (up to 2500mm wide). It avoids the "industrial" look of many steel doors by offering a huge range of aesthetic options:

  • Finishes: Over 200 RAL powder-coated colours, plus textured, metallic, and woodgrain effects.
  • Design: Pressed panel designs can be added to the door leaves for a residential style.
  • Glazing: PAS 24-compliant vision panels are available in various sizes to bring light into lobbies or corridors.

Robust construction

The doorset features a heavy-duty 90mm deep steel frame with bolted corners, paired with two 1.5mm double-skinned galvanised steel leaves. The active leaf features an anti-jemmy flange to protect the meeting style (where the doors meet), preventing prying attacks. A mineral wool core and bonded seals provide thermal insulation (U-values typically 2.2 W/m²K) and weather resistance.

Hardware and configuration

PASGuard 2 offers versatile hardware configurations for different uses:

  • Residential/Main Entrance: Multipoint locking on the active leaf with secure bolts for the passive leaf.
  • Escape Routes: Panic bars or push pads can be fitted for emergency exit compliance without compromising the PAS 24 rating.
  • Access Control: Compatible electromechanical locking options for intercom or fob systems.

Typical applications

This double doorset is widely specified for apartment block main entrances, delivery and service doors for retail/commercial units, community centre entrances, and high-spec residential garage side doors or double front doors. It bridges the gap between a standard commercial aluminium door and a heavy-duty industrial security door.

Application

Applications for the Metador Defender PASGuard 2

The PASGuard 2 double doorset is the go-to solution for any building requiring a secure, wide-access entrance that complies with PAS 24 standards. It is suitable for residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments where security, durability, and accessibility are key priorities.

Multi-occupancy and residential

  • Communal entrances: Main entry doors for blocks of flats, student accommodation, and social housing where high traffic and security are factors.
  • Bin and cycle stores: Secure double doors allow easy movement of large bins and bicycles while protecting contents from theft.
  • New-build dwellings: Compliant with Part Q of the Building Regulations for wider entrance doors or double doors leading to gardens/patios.

Commercial and public buildings

  • Retail and mixed-use: Delivery entrances and back-of-house doors that need to accommodate pallets or large goods while maintaining a secure perimeter.
  • Education and healthcare: Secure corridor doors and external entrances for schools, nurseries, and clinics.
  • Plant rooms: Double doors provide the necessary clearance for machinery maintenance and replacement while securing critical infrastructure.

Why specify a PAS 24 double door?

Securing a double door is technically more challenging than a single door due to the meeting point between the two leaves. The PASGuard 2 has been specifically tested to withstand attack at this vulnerable point, giving you a certified solution where standard double doors might fail.

Part Q and regulatory compliance

For new residential builds (including conversions), Part Q of the Building Regulations mandates that all accessible doorsets must be manufactured to a design that has been successfully tested to PAS 24. The PASGuard 2 satisfies this requirement for double door openings, offering a fully certified route to compliance for architects, developers, and self-builders.

Installation

Installation Guide: Metador Defender PASGuard 2

Installing a double steel doorset requires care to ensure both leaves align correctly and the meeting stiles engage smoothly. The PASGuard 2 system uses an adjustable frame to simplify this process, but correct alignment is critical for PAS 24 security performance.

Important: This is a security-rated product. The doorset must be installed exactly as specified—using all supplied fixings and without unauthorised modification—to maintain its PAS 24 certification.

Tools required

  • SDS drill (hammer action) & impact driver
  • Long spirit level (essential for double doors)
  • 14 mm spanner & large hex key (for adjusters)
  • 10 mm / 12 mm masonry drill bits
  • Suitable structural fixings and packers
  • Fire-rated/Intumescent mastic (if fire rated) or external-grade sealant

Step-by-step installation overview

  1. Check the opening: Ensure the structural opening is square and the floor is level. A level floor is vital for double doors to ensure the meeting stiles align vertically.
  2. Remove leaves (recommended): For double doors, it is safer and easier to remove the heavy leaves before positioning the frame.
  3. Position and square the frame: Place the frame in the aperture. Use the threaded adjusters to loosely hold it in place. Check the frame head is perfectly level.
  4. Fix the hinge jambs: Plumb and fix one hinge jamb first (usually the active leaf side). Then plumb and fix the second hinge jamb. It is critical that both jambs are parallel and vertical.
  5. Hang the leaves: Re-hang both door leaves. Check the gap between the leaves (the meeting stile gap) is consistent from top to bottom.
  6. Adjust for alignment: If the leaves do not meet squarely, adjust the frame fixings or shim under the frame legs. The active leaf should latch smoothly into the passive leaf/frame without binding.
  7. Secure the threshold: Ensure the threshold is fully bedded on sealant and fixed down to prevent movement, which could affect the locking alignment.
  8. Final checks: Test the operation of the primary lock and the passive leaf bolts. Ensure both leaves open and close freely. Seal the frame perimeter with appropriate sealant.

Installer tips for double doors

  • Meeting stile gap: Pay close attention to the gap between the two doors. If it’s too wide, the bolts may not engage securely; if too tight, they will bind.
  • Floor level: If the floor dips in the middle, you must pack under the threshold/jambs to keep the frame head straight. A bowed head will cause the doors to jam.

Measure
A steel doorset is always ordered by the OVERALL dimensions including the door leaf and outer sub fixing frame with no tolerances allowed for. Most people would generally allow 5mm tolerance all the way around the door, but it all depends on how square or true your aperture is on site. This is up to your judgement based on the aperture quality.

This would mean if your structural opening size is measured as 2200mm width and 2100mm height the door and frame ought to be 2190mm wide and 2090mm high with the frame and any threshold included.
Always measure the top, middle and bottom of your aperture width and the left and right hand side for the height and if possible do a measure to make sure the opening is square as well..
Always use millimetres for measuring as this is how we relay back the ordering dimensions to you for checking and approving a drawing for your order.

We will always send a drawing for approval before manufacturing commences.
