Which Security Grille is Best for a Window?

There is no single "best" security grille for a window, the right choice depends on the level of security you need, whether you want the grille to be permanent or removable, and how important visual appearance is to you. We offer three main solutions:

Fixed Window Grilles

The simplest and most affordable option. Fixed grilles are permanently mounted to the window surround and are available in square, diamond, or decorative lattice designs. The size of the open holes can be tailored to your needs , for example, a tight mesh will stop bricks, rocks, or poles from penetrating the window while still allowing light and vision. Fixed grilles are ideal for windows that are not regularly accessed for cleaning or ventilation.

Removable Window Bars

If you need the robust look and security of traditional bars but also want the flexibility to remove them when required, removable window bars are an excellent solution. They use a simple key-locked bottom rail system that allows you to release one or all of the vertical bars for window cleaning, fire escape compliance, or aesthetic preference during business hours. When locked in place, they provide a strong physical deterrent against forced entry.

Retractable Security Grilles

Our most popular window security product and the best all-round solution for most applications. Made to measure in almost any colour, retractable grilles slide smoothly along top and bottom tracks and fold neatly to one side, or both sides with a bi-parting option. When fully retracted, they occupy roughly 15% of the total opening width (around 7–8% per side on bi-parting). Available in two designs, they look great when in use and are practically invisible when open.

For higher-security requirements, we also offer LPS 1175 certified retractable grilles tested to SR1, SR2, and even SR3 levels, providing independently verified resistance against sustained forced attack.
