Can a steel doorset be both fire rated and security rated?
Yes… but only if it is genuinely tested and certified as that complete doorset in the configuration you are buying. A “fire door” and a “security door” are not just the same thing with a different lock. Fire performance is about resisting fire and smoke for a defined period, and security performance is about resisting forced entry using defined attack methods, tools and time. If you need both, you should be looking for separate, clear certification for each performance and you should check the small print: does the certificate include the frame, hinges, locks, closers, glazing and any letter plates or louvres? If it doesn’t, you’re back into assumptions. The biggest issue we see is people mixing and matching hardware on site and assuming it still “counts”. A doorset is a system, not a door leaf. If you want it to perform like the test, it needs to be supplied and installed like the test..
